Ritual for "Making" Holy Water?

I recently heard of a priest who told someone that all he does to “make” Holy Water is to do the sign of the cross over it. (This excludes water used in Baptism.)

Isn’t there a more formal ritual that is - or used to be - employed for the creation of a quantity of Holy Water? Would appreciate knowing that prayer and its source.

yes, there is a rite for making it.
it’s in the sacramentary. and the book of blessings.

beats me, I hate church politics, our connection in rome says we will be in full communion with rome when we get around 15 more clergy. I just do what I am told.

Not to appear ungrateful for the first response, but the ceremony for Holy Water in the “Book of Blessings” goes on for 3 pages, with Scripture reading, psalm responses, quite a lot actually. Having looked through the book, I can understand why one of my Liturgy teachers referred to it as the “Blue Whale.”

Isn’t there a more concise blessing prayer for Holy Water - maybe something from the old Roman Ritual - that would still be valid? And didn’t salt once be used as well?

well, you can use the rite from mass, that is a little shorter. also, in the book of blessings, chapter 41

Making Holy Water should always be made via a proper rite.

Hmmm…OK. Actually, I checked out your website (which feels more Anglican/Lutheran than Catholic but I take the assertions of wanting full communion with Rome to be genuine). Two questions though - does your communion allow female priests; and does it have the same belief as the Catholic Church in the Blessed Virgin Mary? I couldn’t tell from the website and since it is silent with respect to these I assumed the communion has contradictory beliefs to the Catholic Church.

Apologies to the original poster for hijacking this thread a bit but my intellectual curiosity got the better of me.
