I’m not sure where to put this thread, but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about Rob Bell, he’s written Velvet Elvis and Sex God, and also has a Church in Grand Rapids, MI. What do you think of him, what sort of theology does he preach and what do you think of the books he’s written. I haven’t read them but someone recommended them to me, I’m leary of these contemporary preachers because it seems like a lot of them try to water down the truth to appeal to people.

God Bless

I received a video from a friend of my from Rob Bell and not knowing at the time who he was I watched a couple of videos called Luggage part 1 and 2. The message he delivered was good and I watched a couple more. However recently I am discovering the real problem with what he is teaching.
Unfortunetly , he has been said that the bible has no “real” authority and that Christianity needs to be reinvented/ re imagined.
The biggest problem I see with the no authority is then WHO has the authority?? If you and I are arguing about some matter about Gods word then you or myself are correct. Rob Bells velvet elvis states that I am only paraphrasing here but basically the messages is that as you paint even when the picture may come distorted you need to continue painting until you get the picture “perfect” This is a fantastic misrepresentation of what God tells us. Jesus Christ is that picture perfect and what he did for is doesn’t need to be “repainted”. The idea that Christianity needs to be reinvented has many problematic innuendos. He states that Christianity needs to appeal to our youth and needs to conform to what our culture wants. This is a very bad road to be on. Not only is he saying God is wrong but also he doesn’t know what is best for us. God knows what is best for us no matter what generation.
I deeply implore you to stay away from Rob Bell and what the emerging church teaches. read your bible and trust only on God, for he is TRUTH, THE WAY, AND THE LIFE nobody else can take that away from God. be diligent and stay firm to Gods word and trusting in him and loving and serving him ONLY.
It is up to us to teach our youth about God. However, the bible and God are sufficient. Along with the Holy Spirit we have more than enough truth to marvel at.
God bless and give glory to God the father, the Son and the Holy spirit. Amen
