I know there was a previous thread made her some time ago, but I thought I’d start another to discuss his views and his book together.

I never read the book, but I have seen his interview, led by Ross Douthat, and another one led by Bill Moyers.

I must say I find his perspective fascinating-- mind you, I’m not sure if I entirely agree with his perspective on god evolving over time, but I admire his respect for the world religions (including my own), believing that they can be a source of progress and communicate positive ideas.

Here’s the link to his interview:

Here’s another w/ Ross Douthat:

What I mean to ask in this thread is, what do you guys think about his views? For example, I’m kinda iffy on his perspective that Christians adapted the idea of heaven from Ancient Egyptian culture. Otherwise, I admire his optimistic spirit.

I think he is confusing the human “concept” of God with God himself. Our concept has definitely evolved over time, although individuals in the past have had direct access in some sense to God. This is a far cry from claiming that God himself has evolved, unless of course, you are confusing concept with reality or just assuming God has no reality and concept is all there is, which merely assumes atheism and tries to explain aspects of religion from that viewpoint.
