Recently my daughter spoke with a social worker in my family home in regards to social services. I was shocked to find that this Rochester NY based Catholic agency has a list of gay parents waiting for adoption. When I questioned this the social worker said “Isn’t this great!” - like I was supposed to be excited that a Catholic agency was allowing gay adoptions. Does anyone know if this is happening in other Catholic adoption agencies throughout the states?
Where did you or your daughter see this list and how did you know the people listed were gays? I am confused.

Neat62 - your contribution is further evidence of a division within the Church. Couple this very obvious conflict of interest with the Catholic Church sex scandal of recent years and you’ll see why an agency like Catholic Charities has caved under the pressure of popular demand for marriage recognition for homosexuals. It seems that the sex scandal wasn’t enough to filter disobedient shepherds within the Church. I guess we’ll have to watch as they make their last stand.

Also - as far as I know gay adoption is not mandatory for all adoption agencies in NY. So what gives here?
Catholic Charities of Boston will shut down their adoption services this Jan. because of an MA law stating there can be no discrimination regarding adoption services due to gender identiy. In other words service the gay/lesbian community as you do the heterosexual community. I believe the Bishop of each diocese is the one to decide who remains open and why, or why they don’t do so.

Also if I am not mistaken NY is the most liberal state outside of CA in supporting the gay/lesbian agenda.

If the Bishop doesn’t seem interested in the spiritual life of his flock, go up to the next “commander”. But DO SOMETHING. Don’t let this spread.

At our first meeting with the Catholic Center social worker we were told that there were all kinds of parents waiting for adoption including gay parents. I kept a flat face at the time because I did not want to risk losing any information that might help my daughter make her decision at that time.

In post #27 you can read that I called the agency directly giving a false name and asking if they would allow me and my gay partner adopt. I was told that we could.

I have not heard from our bishop since I wrote a letter. It has in fact been a couple months now and maybe something has changed since then - some change without notice. Sometime after the new year I will check again.

It is terrible that US Catholic adoption agencies feel compelled to close down. Pope Benedict recently said this as he addressed the Taiwanese Episcopal Conference "in a justly ordered society, one need not fear to be a faithful Catholic and a good citizen.” Source
It doesn’t help either when Catholic adoption agencies and bishops kowtow to the popular vote.
