Since returning to the Catholic faith, I’ve always wanted to see the services of the other Rites. I’ve never attended one out of fear of causing offense.

(I keep hoping that someday EWTN will televise the various services.)

They have in the past and I am sure they will again in the future.

But having said that, I offer my services. I will help you though it so you won’t do anything “offensive”.

Especially with Great Lent coming up. We will have Presanctified Liturgies on Wednesday evenings and the Akathist to the Mother of God (a prayer service) on Friday evenings. The Akathist is especially wonderful and I would stongly suggest that all of you come to at least one of those.

Again, I will gladly meet you at the Church or some place before and sit with you and help you though the Liturgies.

That is very kind of you. I may just take you up on the Wed evening offer. Fridays are my assigned evening for Eucharistic Adoration.
 
I live in thge Rochester diocese. Bishop Clark is a well known liberal. There are many stories that could be shared, but a quick internet search would reveal enough to know there is a liberal bent here.

There are good, solid, orthodox parishes. Our Lady of Victory downtown is one such good parish. I know of four or five others. I can, also, list many heterodox parishes. As far as I know the term heterodox does not mean not in communion. One may be in communion, but have a spirit of material schism. A good example is a homily I was at three years ago when the priest said Rome had no clue and that the teacings from Rome concerning homosexuality and female ordinations were homophobic and sexist. Rainbow sashers were give a standing ovation and the Eucharist was made with honey, salt and was leavened. Particles were everywhere including the floor. But, they have a great outreach to homeless people so the rest is of no consequence in their minds. I could go on…

Take a peek at The Wanderer and one can read a little about Bishop Clark and the diocese.

Where do you do Adoration? Maybe I could join you for that.

Well said. Thanks. Fr. A at Our Lady of Victory is hard hitting and awesome. Just what people need to hear. I think I am blessed that I get to sit and listen to him daily.

BTW, While Holy Cross is in the part of Rochester called Charlotte, it should be noted that Charlotte was originally part of the town of Greece that the city annexed.

The Wanderer is a weekly lay run Catholic newspaper. You can check it out online at the wandererpress.com I believe. I may be mistaken but I think one of the frequent contributers lives in the Rochester diocese.

I can’t speak about the parish you mentioned, perhaps another poster can give some insight.

As has been pointed out there are some great Eastern rite parishes. There is allowed an indult once a week for the Latin mass. I have never been but it is at a parish in the city each Sunday. I think Fr. A. from Our lady of Victory is one of the priests who says the mass at the other Church.

IMO, dioceses like Rochester often have the indult in an attempt to keep “traditionalists” in one place so they are happy and do not cause trouble and start sending letters about mass abuses and heterodox teachings.

One can find good solid priests here, but one may have to travel a bit or discern very carefully.

Yep, I admire him. His homilies are some of the best I have ever heard. And this in a diocese that is so liberal. I hope and pray he is around for a long time. His parish is about the only one around here I know of that has confession Monday-Saturday. A wonderful thing!

Oh I think I know exactly where that is. Is that on Lake, right near Stutson? I grew up in Greece and my grandparents lived in Irondequoit, so I’m very familiar with that area. I spent a lot of time in Charlotte and still do when we visit!

That’s the one. On Lake & Latta, in front of the lighthouse, near the new ferry.

Stutson is now an insignifcant street because they closed the bridge this summer (built a new one a block or two south).

Now we have 3 priests who often give hard hitting homilies as well.
The parish has Adoration everyday until 10:00 - and is very conservative.

Thanks much. Adoration everyday? Including Saturdays and Sundays? Is confession daily?

confession is only on Sat - but there is Adoration every day - even Sat and Sunday. Sat is just until 3:30. Sunday from 2:00 - 10:00pm

daily confession is at Our Lady Of Victory before the 12 noon mass.
 
Hello,
I too attend Holy Spirit and I love the Church. Great priests! Adoration every day, I go on Saturdays. I also wanted to note that they also have confessions on the eve of first Fridays from 3:30-4:30 as well as every Saturday.

They are also very devoted to the saints and to Mary. Oh yea, daily masses at 9am, I believe, and 5:30pm, Monday through Friday.

I used to attend a fairly unorthodox parish until a couple years ago I decided to try this parish on the feast of the Assumption. Go with the guidance of Mary, she always leads to Jesus!

Final note, I recently visited our newly renovated Cathedral. Very sad, is all I can say, but I pray for our Bishop, especially through the intercession of Servant of God Fulton Sheen. We must stay united with our Bishop, and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide our diocese.
 
I live in the Diocese of Rochester. At a meeting this week it was explained that on Holy Thursday,after the converts have participated in having their feet washed, everyone will be invited up to their hands washed. Because we use our hands to be of service to each other and only the little kids will volunteer to get their feet washed it is believed this will encourage more people to participate in the ceremony.
 
I live in the Diocese of Rochester. At a meeting this week it was explained that on Holy Thursday the congregation will be invited to have their hands washed. Since we use our hands in the service of others and because only the little kids will volunteer to get their feet washed, this will encourage more people to partipate in the service.
The converts who are coming into the Church on Easter will still get their feet washed. Then they will assist with the hand washing.
