Question…this is reported in News Week and being touted as a good thing in several secular periodicals, can this be. I was fortunte to be able to visit Rome in 2001 and agai in 2003 which was an extraordinary experience to say the least. I recall entering the Sistene Chapel and was told to not speak or touch the beautiful tapestry. There were guards who actually escort people out for whispering. This seems a sacrilage to me, am I wrong in thinking so. Who would authorize such a thing. I would appreciate any feedback on this. What could the purpose of this possibly be.

I think there was already a thread on this in the Catholic News forum some time ago. 🙂

👍

And if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it towards a charitable purpose of some sort?

The rock band U2 did not perform a rock concert in the Sistine Chapel. A member of the band U2 played an acoustical guitar with the Irish choir in a performance at the Sistine Chapel.

The Pontifical Council for Culture’s office for Science and Faith and The Stem For Life Foundation held the conference. And ultimately the bishop of Rome would need to OK such performance-- so that would be the Pope.

The conference on regenerative medicine. The band member has a personal connection to cancer and was invited.

thanks I appreciate the feedback…it was just difficult for me imagine …I really didn’t think it was going to be ampliers and the like…but I suppose for a charitable cause…I am just quite conservative, and having visited the Chapel in '01 and how things were handled with respect to revence that was expected it was just difficult for me to ‘picture’ for any purpsose…seems another location might have been chosen and been just as effective…anyway…tks

Much of U2’s early work is laced with Christian/Catholic references. 40 is based on Psalm 40 and Gloria is from Gloria in excelsis Deo are two of my early favs.
