I just noticed on my Saints Calendar that 14 - 16 May were Rogation days. No explaination given. I assume these are another of those traditional things that have quietly slipped into near oblivion?

Your correct, Ember and Rogation They are special days of prayer for the earth and for those who raise crops and farm. Because most of us are “modern” prople who get their food from the store we never think to thank God for the crops and weather.

Well, I’ll have to go out and sprinkle some holy water on my garden and in my hen house.😃 We still grow much of our own food here!

You’ll find more than you want to know in the Catholic Encyclopedia on the New Advent web site.

Yes, they were the minor rogation days. April 25 is the major rogation day.

Ember days occur in all 4 seasons–known as advent embertide, lent embertide, whit (pentecost) embertide and michaelmas (St. Michael-- Sept. 29) embertide.

When are the Pentecost Ember Days? They’d be coming up soon. I’ll have to put 'em in my calendar, I always forget and it’s a tradition I’d like to take up.

Edit: Never mind. Just found out that it’s the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday after Pentecost.

I learned about the Rogation Days after planting five apple trees last Sunday. I went in the house to see if there were any prayers to bless an orchard, and found out all about it. We went around the place blessing apple trees and our gardens. We loved it.

I love it! Where did you find the prayers?

Thank you! Wow, I can bless everything on our acerage - the well, the barn, our eggs, our tractor, our chickens, the garden, our apple orchard, our house, you name it, they have a blessing for it! I’ve got to go to church today and stock up on holy water!
Better bring the 40-gallon drum then! 😃

No kidding!

Wasn’t some forum member looking for one a while back? It seems as if we found a picture of one somewhere…

I’ll have to invest in one of those babies!
