Hi, I’m wondering, is there any reason why the Roman Chasubles seem to be used only with the Tridentine Mass and the Gothic ones are used only with the Novus Ordo.
From what I understand, the rules allow any type at any Mass, as long as it’s a Chasuble that conforms to the rules. But, it looks like the Roman ones gravitate toward use in only the Tridentine Mass, and the Gothic ones gravitate toward the Pauline Mass.
I thought one possibility might be that the Gothic Chasuble just got more popular at the same time the Novus Ordo Mass came around, just by coincidence. But, it doesn’t quite look as if that’s the case.
And, what’s worn under the Roman Chasuble? I thought that, along with the maniple, stole and pectoral cross, the alb is supposed to be used, but when I see pictures of celebrants in Roman Chasubles, it looks as if they’re using lace Rochets. Is this just another style of alb that they just prefer using with this type of Chasuble because the arms are more visible?
