roman catholic is the english translation of the “latin-rite church” i was just wondering, what was the church called in the original latin language?

I do not believe the Church refers to herself as “Roman Catholic” (for instance: that phrase does not appear in the Catechism)?

wat was the early church called?

In what we know as today’s Europe, during the Middle Ages, the Church was just called “Ecclesia,” which means “the Church.” I can’t think of an instance in which she was known as anything else but “Ecclesia,” though perhaps other forumites have more knowledge?

I’m pretty sure it is Ecclésiam cathólicam. I got it from the Apostles Creed in Latin.
