Yes - and I am free to do so.

My point:
entire congregations have converted without special “titles.”
Such an action is not unheard-of nor is it forbidden.
Not that I said you weren’t, but if you were going to change the context of the conversation, at least be clear about it rather than dragging it out into an argument. You were saying one thing, I was saying another thing. Fights often do not start because two people hate each other, simply because they misunderstood each other.

fascinating.

yet I didn’t misunderstand your posts.
simply put: this new action of “naming”
is a new idea for many groups of converts.
they would have felt it to be offensive - no surprise to me.

Anglicans are used to naming, there’s so many “kinds” of Anglicans. As I mentioned earlier, if we call our parishes “Catholic Church” alone, what does one who is visiting should expect when he/she enters? A Roman Mass? A Byzantine Divine Liturgy? Anglican Use Mass? Holy Qurbana?

and your user name, Padraig?
Something i got, when i registered here a year ago (tomorrow it is a year). If i could have changed it today, it would have been Johannes (John in english) as this was and is the catholic name i took when i converted on 11-24-2010.

My username is another name for St Patrick. One of the saints that inspires me a lot.

For me, I thought of the Gaelic ‘Patrick.’
Wondered if any Irish heritage was present.

Hey Padraig! Welcome Home!

😃

I’m proud to be a Roman Catholic and happy to proclaim that to anyone who asks. It says you are a Catholic, defines your Rite and your Pope has his seat in Rome. Simple. I’m tired of revisionism.

There’s also the existence of ‘churches’ like Old and Liberal Catholics. It’s a way to distinguish which team you play for.

I always think that we should have trademarked Catholic a long time ago so that only real Catholics can use the title “Catholic”.

The same way Coke got trademarked? And its not like “catholic” is used in everyday language to mean other than the Catholic Church. Do you hear Obama promoting “catholic healthcare”? Never.

In fact, the english use of “Catholic” as “universal” never took place. From the getgo, the term “Catholic” always referred to the Church outside of the original koine greek.

RC Cola might have a problem with it. 😉

We used to fondly call it “Roman Catholic Cola”.

But seriously, is it possible to copyright the name of a religion on an international basis? I guess a 2,000 year history would help Her case.

Exactly. Any adjective, even “real,” severely compromises the word. Not to mention, begs to incite and divide.

Credo…in unum, sanctam, catholicam, et apostolicam ecclesiam.

Est quod est. If you don’t like it, call yourself a Christian then.

I hope there is something we can do because a lot of unsuspecting faithful Catholics are being lured by other groups who are banking only on the name “Catholic” even though they are in fact not Catholic.

Yes, showing the different traditions and jurisdictions in our Church actually reinforces the fact that it is indeed a universal faith. The only problem is when those who are not Catholic trying to identify themselves as Catholic.

The issue really isn’t a big deal to me but didn’t you just contradict yourself from a previous post?

Moving on to other topic…

The thread is all about sticks and stones. Moving on to other topic…

Talk about confusing, in my diocese is an “independant catholic church” with a “bishop”. Now for the agrivating part. He is our fire department’s “catholic” chaplain. I’m just waiting for somebody to bring it up. Typical of my liberal department.
