Announced today, the creation of the new Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, effective 1 January 2017. Cardinal Turkson will be its first Prefect.

Being suppressed into this new Dicastery are: the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”, the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People and the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers.

(As a reminder, effective tomorrow, the new Dicastery for the Laity, Family, and Life is created with the suppression of the Pontifical Council for the Family and the Pontifical Council for the Laity.)
 
Pope Francis has instituted the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and has named Cardinal Peter Turkson, the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, as its first prefect.
