Does anyone, especially British members, know if the new English translation of the Roman Missal has been published, in Great Britain, by any publisher other than the CTS? (I’ve also posted a similar message in the Catholics in Britain Group.)

Yes, Redemptorist Publications. Last I heard they were out of stock, but expecting some in soon. £19.99. though, IIRC.

I’m talking about missals for in the pews, though. I don’t know if they publish an altar missal, I’ve just realised.

Thanks! Have you seen it? If you have, would you care to share any opinions on it? Please feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post your comments publicly.

Our Parish is selling the Redemptorist one though I don’t like the look of it. Here’s a link.

I would go with the the CTS, after all the Altar Missals are from CTS. And the Daily Missal is coming out in January.

I don’t like the CTS one. There’s no art work. It looks and feels “cheap”.

Personally, I’m just going to make do with the new translation pew cards for the time being, as I gather that the Lectionary translation is going to change in a couple of years.

I suspect we’re a long way off a new Lectionary.

I think it has quotes from the Holy Father and others for major feasts And the order of Mass in Latin along side the English.
Yes, that’s true. Unfortunately, I bought one.😦 I still feel the same about it.

Doesn’t the CTS New Sunday Missals come with artwork, the exact same ones in fact as their Altar Missals?

These are all the hand missals for use in Great Britain:

CTS
The CTS New Sunday Missal
Format: standard hardcover or white/burgundy leather presentation editions

The CTS New Daily Missal
Format: standard hardcover edition

Collins
The Sunday Missal
Formats: standard hardcover or white/black leather deluxe editions

The Weekday Missal
Formats: red/blue standard hardcover or black leather deluxe editions

Redemptorist Press
Your Sunday Missal
Format: Leatherette edition

St Paul
St Paul’s Sunday Missal 2012
Format: Paperback annual

By the way, I also read that CBC Distributors is also publishing the Roman Missal for Sundays and Holy Days with the new translation. But I haven’t seen the new books yet.

No, there’s no artwork at all in it. The edition that is a facsimile of the Altar Edition having the same artwork is the Study Edition.
I’m still waiting for my copy to arrive, so I don’t have the actual copy to comment from. However, Fr Z from WDTPRS has put up pictures of the CTS New Sunday Missal, and there are artwork in there. The picture shown is at the start of the Season of Advent, and is the same one as the Altar Missal.

I have ordered the Sunday Missel Redemptoris through my Parish. It hasn’t arrived yet. Do you need a new Missel each year?

I’ve had another look. Skimming through it you won’t see the pictures. I missed the one at Advent because I purchased mine after the First Sunday. There are some similar pieces of artwork on the first page of some seasons, e.g. Christmas and Easter. There isn’t one for Lent.

The edition that you ordered is an example of a perpetual hand missal, i.e. it can be used year after year (or at least until the Church introduces a new edition of the Lectionary - but only God knows when that will be and whether it will be the NRSV, or the ESV, or what else exist). So you needn’t purchase new hand missals every year if you have what you ordered.

The translations of the Roman Missal are copyright to the Bishops’ Conference in the provinces in which they are to be used. In England and Wales, and in Scotland, the Bishops’ Conferences have given exclusive publishing rights to the new translation to the Catholic Truth Society. Redemptorist Publications and various Diocesan publishers have been given permission to reproduce parts of it, but the only source of the altar missal and the smaller versions of it is the CTS.

I agree with other contributors that the CTS missals are on poor quality paper and they are unlikely to last. We have all three editions: the full altar missal, the chapel missal and the study missal. They are all exactly the same apart from the size. The chapel missal is printed on rather thin paper and our copy is already becoming dog-eared where the pages are turned with the ribbons. The study missal is on such fragile paper, I can’t see it lasting until Easter. The CTS will need to find a solution to this problem or I can see burning at the stake returning to Britain

Much as it pains be to admit it, the US Bishops’ Conference have a far better approach. As well as more robust books, the American edition of the Roman Missal is available on-line. When I need to produce service sheets for a particular purpose, I find it easiest to cut and paste from the American edition, then proof read from the England and Wales edition (taking care not to tear the pages)
