What was the source used for the rites of blessing items such as rosaries, crucifixes, candles, etc between the pre-conciliar liturgical books (ie. Collectio Rituum ) and the new Ritual published in the 1980s?

Can a priest use the “pre-Conciliar” rites to bless items such as chalk, salt, and bees which have no new rite in the current Book of Blessings?

Thanks!

Sorry, it’s just my experience of bees has not been a blessing. One stung me in the inner ear when I was 3, so they are a bit of a phobia for me. Like the candles though!

Yes Father, but the reformers threw the baby out with the bathwater it would seem. What about blessings for everything else that used to be blessed? Does the clergy no longer bless salt, chalk, epiphany water, bees, etc? Some blessings are questionable as to whether or not the items are even being blessed or given explicit power to convey grace i.e. the blessing of holy water outside mass, religious images, confessionals, etc. The new rite doesn’t even explicitly bless these items! It blesses the people. Many times the sign of the cross cannot be found. Can we say, “Rome, we have a PROBLEM”!?!?!?!

Yes they absolutely can! My pastor does all from the pre conciliar Rituale Romanum…everything. Then again we are not a parish that follows the post conciliar changes also. Under the Ecclesia Dei indult which we operate I am not sure of anything stated as per this. I mean if my pastor was also to administer the Sacrament of “annointing of the sick” he would use the old Rite of Extreme Unction as per the pre-conciliar Rituale Romanum also…as well as the pre conciliar burial rite where the casket is lowered very slowly while everyone watches.

I guess the pre-conciliar rites can be used if someone requests them and are available.
