I just wanted to double check and see if you guys thought this was sinful or not, as I’m not sure.

I’ve found that I have a noticeable increase in desire some days out of the month. This seems to line up with biology and how everything is supposed to work (I am female). But I am not married yet.

I don’t masturbate or look at pornography, but I have found that those days I tend to read stories that are more romantic in nature. I do not read sex scenes, but more the general romantic caring sort of sections.

Now I read those occasionally generally, but it seems I read them more then. I am not sure if this is a sin or not. I tend to be scrupulous (I have diagnosed OCD) but it feels wrong to me. Whether that’s the OCD or a real feeling I don’t know.

Some Romance writers by Nora Roberts basically write literary porn for women.

If you’re not reading sex scenes and the like I don’t see what could be wrong with reading romance.

I would suggest investing in some Christian romance novels. You won’t have to worry about stumbling upon inappropriate scenes AND they have the added bonus of clean language, more realistic and mature relationships and faith grounded relationships.

One author I really loved was Lori Wick. Her work is amazing.

Her book the Long Road Home is one of my favorites. I’ve read it many, many times.

🙂

HI,
If it’s causing you to have your desire increase, then don’t read them. These kinds of materials the devil uses to arouse our sensual pleasures. Anything that can let the devil pervade the senses like certain TV, books, places, drugs etc. and may cause us to sin, are not good for us and we should stay away from them. Read things that don’t make you think about sex. Why tempt yourself?

As long as the text isn’t erotic in nature and it isn’t causing you to lust, then you are fine.
