So I read “The Spirit of the Liturgy” by Romano Guardini… and then I read “The Reform of the Roman Liturgy” by Klaus Gamber. In RRL, p. 143, Gamber writes: “In Germany, the new place of the priest behind the altar had its beginnings in the Jugendbewgung, the youth movement of the 1920s, when it was popular to celebrate the Eucharist in small groups. A pioneer of this practice was Romano Guardini at the Masses he celebrated at Burg Rothenfels.”
I find it weird, after having read SL that Guardini would celebrate Mass in that way. What’s the story behind it?
