Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

when there is sin in our life, how can there not be condemnation of such?

Because Paul is speaking of the eternal condemnation on sin, not the chastening we receive because of our sin or because of God’s will to humble and teach us something;

Heb 12:6-7
“6 For whom the Lord loveth, he chastiseth; and he scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 Persevere under discipline. God dealeth with you as with his sons; for what son is there, whom the father doth not correct?”

If our will is primarily focused on the Spirit and not the flesh we are “in Christ Jesus” and will receive eternal salvation.

I tend to agree that it means as long as we are “in Christ,” i.e. a state of grace, that we shall not be “condemned,” i.e. left for hell. Haydock has similar comments.
