In Roman times when Jesus was living. If the Roman authorities found someone possessed would they execute that individual immediately.

Is this one of the many reasons our Lord drove them out?

This is not necessarily true. There are many instances of possession in the Roman form of paganism which was not only considered acceptable but also revered. Most notably, the ritual possession of pagan high priests by their gods (of whom exorcists over the years have found many to have actually been demons) and the posessions of the sibyls by the god Apollo. Primarily, it was semitic customs which led to the Romans favoring the locals’ traditions and allowing the executions to take place.
