I want to know our Catholic view on this:

Rome killed true Christians. Her heresies are manifested when someone reads the Bible. She has killed people for reading and translating the Bible. When Christians share the truth of God’s word, Catholics who want to know the truth leave her (and so does their money). Rome has kept her reign by deceiving people with a false gospel and by force. Former Roman Catholic priest Richard Bennett boiled down her strategy–(1) get laws on the books in the various kingdoms and (2) then get them executed (see “The Pattern of Papal Persecutions, Then and Now”, inquisit.htm).

Well there is that thing about feeding us Christians to the lions in the gladiator days.

Except that saint the lions refused to eat…

was there a point to this Chris because it is like you started this thread with the tail end of a thought, I have no clue if you are trying to open a debate, or just wanted to make a statement.

The name of this saint is on the tip of my tongue. Might have to google him

Oh I’m sorry. I’m not opening a debate. I’m a Roman Catholic I just want to know catholic view on this.

These claims often shows up on non-catholic discussions to justify their sect leaving the true church. This is a sweeping generalization and a complete disregard of church history. Ask him his sources and compare that to actual evidence will show their inconsistency. I suggest you read the book The Apostasy that wasn’t by rod bennet.

Hi Chris have you read the bible and then left the church? If it were true that reading the bible would show the heresies of the Church it would be totally empty by now. But it is not hmmm.

I have to say, I totally misread your post above. It sure seemed hateful until I caught this clarification.

Thanks for clarifying your post. I had flagged it initially because it just looked like troll hating on Catholics.

Going forward, if it’s something you want clarification on, it’s good to put it just like you did, that you’re Catholic and want to know how to respond to this or how other Catholics think.

If someone is making such claims, I agree it is good to find out exactly which persons they’re talking about so you can historically address the right situation. Sweeping generalizations over 2000 years are pretty hard to respond to.

It’s one of those things protestants make up to justify not being part of the Church. It all goes into their idea of a “great apostasy”. If you encounter this claim, all you have to do is ask for a primary source. I’m not aware of any evidence that one occurred.

Hi Legend,

I’m sorry left the church? The content of my post is from a protestant
website and I just want to know our catholic views on the matter.

Chris.

Rome killed true Christians.
Not true. The Catholic Church has not killed anyone, with the possible exception of Ananias and his wife. See Acts 5.
Her heresies are manifested when someone reads the Bible.
Actually, the Bible is based upon Catholic Doctrine. Especially the New Testament. The Catholic Church wrote the New Testament based upon the Teachings of Jesus Christ. And she selected the books which are now in the Old Testament of the Bible.
She has killed people for reading and translating the Bible.
Already answered, see above.
When Christians share the truth of God’s word, Catholics who want to know the truth leave her (and so does their money).
When Catholics leave the Church, it is because they don’t understand the Word of God and are fooled by people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Let me put it to you this way. Any devout Catholic, even one that is considered the lowliest, understands the Word of God better than the most celebrated Protestant. Why? Because Catholic Doctrine is based on truth. Whereas, Protestant doctrine is based upon error.

Devout Catholics know the Truth very well. Protestants know their errors very well.
I don’t know who that fellow is, but if he was formerly a Catholic priest, he has succumbed to Satan’s lies. The Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus Christ established. And that is why she has reigned for so long and will continue to do so. This is easily proven from Scripture:

The Church which is infallible (1 Tim 3:15; Eph 3:10).
The Church which is united (Eph 4:5).
The doctrines of the Catholic Church which are distinctive from other churches:
Purgatory (1 Cor 3:15).
Eucharist (1 Cor 11:23-27).
Communion of Saints (Rom 12:12-20).
The Mass and the necessity to attend (Heb 10:25-31).
The Sacrament of Confession (Heb 13:17).
The Sacrament of Holy Orders (1 Tim 4:14).
The Sacrament of Baptism (Titus 3:5).
Justification and salvation by faith and works (Rom 2:1-13).

Do you mean Rome as in “The Roman Empire” or Rome as in “The Catholic Church”?

I need to know this before I give a response to this thread.

I think the OP is referring to “Trail of Blood” type accusations and how to respond to them. Among the beliefs that midset has is that the true church was driven underground by Constantine for over 1000 years and that it re-emerged in the reformation as the Baptists.

Well that’s just Reformist Propaganda.

It’s annoying now, but in previous times it was sad because in many countries with protestant majorities their freedom of religion laws for a long time had “except for Papists, they’re still to be killed on sight” clauses. Not to mention millions of Irishmen being starved to death in a preventable famine while the Government kept shipping their food out of the country, barring other countries from sending relief food, and saying “the real evil here are the Irish people” all because Ireland refused to become Anglican.

No. When Paul writes Romans, he is NOT writing to the city of Rome, but to the Church of Rome.

Paul complements the Church of Rome.
Rom 1:
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, 10 asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.[d] 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine."

The same Church 2000 years later, pope Francis is over, 266th successor of St Peter 😁

There was no bible for almost 400 years.

The Catholic faith, was being persecuted by the Roman empire because of many things, one being we taught one God, not many gods.

As for the bible, the NT scriptures were written in, by, for the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church created the bible. In 381 at the Council of Rome, Pope Damasus I, decreed the finalized canon of scripture. 73 books, OT and NT Decree of Pope Saint Damasus from the Acts of the Roman Synod (382 AD

The heretics of the 16th century removed 7 books to their bibles, and that continues to today. I call their bibles, bible lite, they have 66 books.

Non Catholics have to deflect attention off all their MANY heresies, and the fact Jesus didn’t establish not one of THEM, nor did an apostle. So in order to defend their own reason for existing, they have to attack Our Lord’s Church… The Catholic Church. It’s been here for 2000 years and is guaranteed to be here for all time. It is the Church that carries all of Jesus promises, outside of which there is no salvation.

yes, i agree. “rome” as an empire disappeared 1,600 years ago

the term “rome” is usually used today by protestants in the perjorative as an anti-catholic slander

Rome did kill true Christians. During Roman persecution of Christians. Those Christians happened to be Catholic.

@steve-b has written well thought out answers.😃
Rome killed true Christians.
Christians were persecuted for their refusal to worship the emperor, general dislike for Christians likely arose from their refusal to worship the gods or take part in sacrifice, which was expected of those living in the Roman Empire. The early Christian’s experience hostility during times of peace, such as when Nero great Rome fire of A.D. 64 and risks of evasion.

Many Christians who refused to break their faith where executed. A.D. 249 to 251. Emperor Decius’s, demanded that all Christians offer a sacrifice that required witness to this.

I do believe, if not just Catholics existed during this time such as Protestants, Southern Baptists etch they too would have experience the traumas under the Roman Empire that Catholic Christians experienced. I feel this is worthy to note and mentioned

@ChrisNP Regarding the chap you mentioned, I read Peter Hofmann experience as a new Catholic Apologetics on Richard Bennett - it is a good read.
