I’ve been reading some of his site.

Does anyone know anything about him? He claimed that the Warning predicted at Garabandal would happen Good Friday 2010, and now is saying he miscalculated and it will now happen this coming Good Friday.

What does the Church think about him?

Just wondering.

From…Colin Donovan…EWTN’s Sr. Theologian…who was asked this questionm on Mr. Conte
Question from kmarie on 08-03-2006:
Hi, I came across this website, Catholic Planet. The **owner **states that he is a Roman Catholic Theologian etc. He gives specific information regarding end times etc. Do you know if this is a reputable catholic site? Thank you

**Answer by Colin B. Donovan, STL on 09-07-2006: **

He seems to base much on calling himself a Catholic theologian, but does not tell us the basis of that claim. However,** some** of his material, such as his claim that the Virgin Mary was, like Our Lord, conceived virginally and born virginally, are beyond far-fetched and without any basis whatsoever in Church tradition or theology. In any case,if you want to know Catholic teaching on the end times, read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, beginning at paragraph 668.

If you wish to know what Catholic apparitions and mystics approved by the Magisterium (reliable sources, but NOT thereby part of Catholic teaching) say about the endtimes get Desmond Birch’s book “Trial, Tribulation and Triumph,” (clink on link for EWTN Religious Catalogue).

If you wish an **overview of both the teaching and the approved mystics, get Desmond’s and my video series The Last Things: In Time and Eternity. **

See also the summary in my FAQ Endtimes, Millennium, Rapture.

Finally, keep in mind that while there are abundant claims of apparitions and mysticism today,** none of the ongoing ones can claim approval of the Church**, whereas, **there is a tradition of approved mystics that reasonably can claim our attention, though not our faith. Stick with them and also keep your peace. **

I have exchanged e-mails with the episcopal secretary of the Diocese where Ron Conte is located, and** he assured me that Ron Conte´s writings** have no authorization at all from his Bishop; in fact the opinion I received with this priest about Ron Conte’s predictions and **“eschatology writings” is quite negative. **

Mr. Conte sounds impressive…but also like a “less than subtle agnostic”…many theologians can and do get* “outside of”*…or “in front of” the Church’s approved/explicit Teaching/Tradition…and unless they reign themselves back in…they end up “in a ditch…off the road”…wonderng how did I get here!

All of this is simply…for your consideration…especially his lack of backing/support from his own bishop…that is significant…the most significant fact!

He writes speculative theology and knows it - if you disagree with him on eschatology he won’t mind.

He’s ultra-convservative in issues of sex, and I haven’t figured out if he’s right or not…

But this issue boils down to whether you believe in Garabandal/Medjugorje. He presents likely dates that have been wrong twice.

I think he also predicted World War 3 would start in 2010.

Thanks for the info.

Not sure what to think about him, but I do agree with his conservative outlook.

Ron also did the Bible based on the Clementine Vulgate, but doesn’t have the proper approval from any bishops or the Pope or anything. Violation of Code of Canon Law of 1983

He is not “ultra conservative” on the issue of sex…rather he is is at least on certain points…simply incorrect (and he misreads one document I know of).

(hence I would not use that term…not that I use that term anyhow…such is a political term…)

I could not recommend (in fact I would steer away from) his writings and views.

I would imagine he is well meaning (certainly puts a lot of energy into things)…but his ideas at least in certain aspects do not present the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Well Ron Conte is a public figure and author.

Ron Contes’ words about Mother Angelica, founder of EWTN:

Quote:
““I don’t like watching Mother Angelica. I find her understanding of the Faith to be limited. Her explanations are humerous and easy to understand, but lack theological depth. I don’t believe that she is a Saint because of this lack of depth to her understanding of the Faith. …But I think that having her own television network has led her to have a popularity which greatly exceeds her level of holiness.””
Now anyone who agrees with the above has not read Raymond Arroyo’s book on Mother Angelica(a contemplative nun)to know what a ‘gifted’,following the will of God, person Mother Angelica was starting early on that she was –

Ron Contes words about himself:
catholicplanet.net/forum/…t=3886&p=30040
Quote:
"“When any prediction of mine fails, even only on a minor point, many persons will condemn the entire body of work on that basis. And when my predictions succeed, there will be an even stronger push to condemn these writings, because people will be afraid that the remainder of my predictions is also true. They will petition Bishops and the Holy See for some type of condemnation or negative decision on my eschatology. They will make all kinds of false accusations. They will distort my predictions and my work in theology apart from eschatology. From time to time, they will succeed in convincing one Bishop or another, or one prominent priest or lay leader or another, in publicly speaking against my work, to one degree of disapproval or another.
The next Pope in particular will speak against my work in eschatology, in a limited way and to a limited extent, but this will be misrepresented very widely as if it were an utter condemnation of all my work and of me personally. This type of event happened to Padre Pio (though he is much holier than me) and to the writings of St. Faustina (whose writings are greater than mine). If it happens to the greater person and the greater work, then the lesser person and the lesser work will not be spared.
The next Pope (the one after Pope Benedict XVI, whom I believe will be Cardinal Arinze/Pope Pius XIII) will give an order contraining me concerning my writings in eschatology. But this will not prevent the dissemination of these ideas, and it will be only for a limited time.”

He’s worse than that.
Conte advocates positions that would reduce women in our society to servitude (similar to what women experience under Islamic Sharia Law) if implemented.

Thanks for the info.

Not sure what to think about him, but I do agree with his conservative outlook.
Even though he advocates transforming society into a place where women have little to no freedom, rights, or power?

I guess he then thinks that because World War 3 did not begin in 2010 that is simply of minor significance and should not detract from any other silly predictions he has given!

Having taught college level ethics for some twenty years myself, I find some substantive errors in Ron Conte’s teachings regarding sexual ethics. I won’t go into all the details, but they err on the side of telling people that some things are sins which are not. That could cause real problems for a lot of people, inducing cases of unwarranted scruples.

I am not saying that sexual ethics permits a lax conscience. Certainly, if you want solid guidance in these matters, it is best to consult traditional sources, such as Heribert Jone, Charles McFadden, Francis Connell, John Ford, Gerald Kelly, and Anthony Zimmerman.

Moreover, I am a bit uneasy about him calling himself a Catholic theologian, when he has simply bachelor degrees in philosophy and theology. Normally, a solid Catholic theologian has competence both in philosophy and theology up to the doctoral level. Admittedly, you will find people with all the right-sounding academic backgrounds who are theologically heterodox, such as Charles Curran or Richard McBrien. But still, the people I would prefer to consult on moral matters would have the properly-recognized credentials. Moreover, they would be recognized as authorities by good bishops.

He certainly reads like he knows all about Catholic theology, and this is what makes him even more troubling to me – since the average lay person has no way of easily detecting where he is correct and where he is in error.
