Recently I’ve been invited to attend a talk on spirituality by Ronald Rolheiser (author of “The Holy Longing”). Does anybody know anything about him and whether I should go out of my way for this event?

He’s a regular contributor to a magazine I get “Tower Topics” from Conception Abbey in Conception MO. I find him pretty thought provoking although I haven’t read alot of his stuff, I do take a look at his column in the magazine. Here’s a sample:

He dresses in civilian clothes? Interesting … I suppose.

Do not waste your time going to hear that man!

His writings are questionable, to say the least.

Unless you are throughly catechised and strong and FIRM in orthodoxy, I would advise AGAINST going to hear Ronald Rolheiser. I’ve read some of his columns, and I don’t approve of some of what I read.

Also, avoid Fr. Richard Rohr like the bubonic plague.

If I recall, he is from either a Canadian Order, or was in Canada as (one of the) superior(s).

It is not at all unusual to find priests in countries other than the US to be wearing civilian clothes; whether that is from custom or not I do not know. I have however, often seen pictures of priests from the Continent in civilian clothes.

Perhaps that is an issue that is different in different countries?
