Would it be sinful for two same sex people to share an apartment (separate bedrooms) if it is well know that they both have SSA?
What about two opposite sex people again where both are known to have SSA?
IN MY OPINION
It’s not so much that it is sinful, but that it creates scandal and is the near occasion of sin.
By scandal, I mean that everybody will assume that if two individuals of the same sex who both have homosexual tendencies share an apartment, they will be having relations. The scandal is created then if, while doing this, they fully participate in the sacramental life of the Church. If they, in that situation, receive the Blessed Sacrament, it will be assumed that the Church, in practice, doesn’t really care about homosexual conduct.
We see this all the time with pro-abortion “Catholic” politicians. They are very public about their support for “abortion rights” and, at the same time, never shy away from having pictures taken of them receiving communion. That tends to lead the ordinary Catholic to believe that the Church, in practice, doesn’t
really care about abortion (they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk). And that, in turn, leads others into sin.
That is why Canon 1339 exists (and should be more vigorously exercised, IMHO):Can. 1339 §1. An ordinary, personally or through another, can warn a person who is in the proximate occasion of committing a delict or upon whom, after investigation, grave suspicion of having committed a delict has fallen.
§2. He can also rebuke a person whose behavior causes scandal or a grave disturbance of order, in a manner accommodated to the special conditions of the person and the deed.
As far as “near occasion of sin,” face it: it’s a lot easier to mess up if you are living in the same abode as someone with whom you could be attracted. You might not intend to do so, but it is a lot more likely to happen than if the two people in question lived in separate places.
The bottom line is that while it might not, in of itself, be sinful…it is really, really, really unwise.
