Your special wedding rosary can be made in gold-filled or 14Kt gold.

A wedding rosary has 3 centerpieces. You can have all the same, or have different centerpieces (for instance, you may want the groom’s to have a centerpiece of Jesus, and the bride’s side of the rosary, a centerpiece of Mary, and the joining center of the both sides to be a heart-shaped centerpiece).**

My almost three year old daughter had to get stitches in he forehead last Sunday. The whole time it was happening she laid very still, her little Mary statue clutched in one hand and my rosary in the other. My children wear rosaries a lot. my 10 year-old who is autistic often wears hers to school… public school. 😉 It isn’t a fashion statement for her, it gives her comfort. I have no idea what words if any are being said in her head when she fingers her beads, but I know that it is her prayer.

I dont’ know about the rights and wrongs of wearing a rosary but honestly, a dolce and gabanna rosary. I thought it was kind of amusing but at the same time, a little blasphemous as well. I mean, a holy prayer tool of the catholic church…brought to you by 2 designers who dress women like prostitutes!!! There’s an ad-campaign for ya!!

Whatadeecee - I think your mum is probably wearing it for the right reasons, these others seem to be wearing it for a mockery.
None of this surprises me as the cross has become a fashion accessorie over the years, with no Corpus Christi, oh well if they bring misfortune on themselves then they have only themselves to blame.

Thanks, Hawkeye. M.A.S.H. fan? or are you actually Alan Alda?😉

Sorry, hawkeye. Just read your profile. Hawkeye is the name of a character on the TV show here in the US. Alan Alda played Benjiman Franklin Pierce aka Hawkeye. MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) took place during the Korean War. Very funny show, if you ever come across it.

I Had a Lasso Rosary used during my wedding. It’s a tradition that Hispanic/Mexican cultures use (and maybe some other cultures) to signify unity between the husband and wife.

I had an ex-boyfriend that wasn’t Catholic, but kept a rosary hung on his wall. One day he decided to wear it around his neck because it looked good with his outfit! I told him that it bothered me and that I would appreciate it if took it off because it was something sacred to me and that wearing it because it “went with his outfit” was disrespecting it. We end up arguing about it for about 15 min. and then he finally took it off. Later that day we were at the mall and we were looking at some shoes and he bent forward and guess what he had on?!?! Yes, the rosary!! I was so mad. I can’t believe after explaining how I felt, he still put it on and tried to hide it!

My humble opinion is that there’s nothing wrong with wearing the rosary around your neck as long as you’re dressed modestly and, mostly importantly, you actually pray the rosary!😃
I wear the rosary around my neck sometimes as a testimony, dressed modestly, never with shorts or t-shirts, but I also pray the rosary, so.

Veronica Anne,

Like Kat24 we had a wedding rosary when we got married. While the couple kneel a sponsor couple (padrinos) place the lasso over the woman and man’s head to the shoulders with the crucifix hanging between the two and facing the congregation. It is a beautiful symbol of their union. I

For anybody interested and having access to Mexico, lassos are abundant, beautiful, and relatively inexpensive.

Ok have seen MASH and I do remember Hawkeye & Hotlips :o but this name came from me pointing out to new employees a few mistakes before the boss seen them, so they called me Hawkeye & were grateful.

OK BYE, Stephen Maguire alias Hawkeye 😉

I allow my young sons to wear their Rosaries around their necks. Not as a “necklace”, but as a reminder that our Holy Mother leads us to her Son and that praying the Rosary pleases them both.

And as most all parents know, children loose things alot, having the Rosary around their neck, UNDER their shirt of course, keeps them from loosing or “misplacing” it.

The Rosary should NEVER be worn as a fashion statement, to do so would be to disrespect our Lady, to say the very least.

MASH?!?!

Oh my,another fan…

Our Priest is a HUGE Mash fan. Loves to point out all the mistakes of the shows priest, wish I could spell his name without butchering it 😃 .

a M.A.S.H. thread…now THAT would be fun… 👍

Sorry, off topic,had a 70’s flashback 😃

Back to topic…By wearing a Rosary, you always have it with you. I like the thought of it as being a Hug from our Blessed Mother. How beautiful is that.

Maybe someone can help me how to tell my mom she shouldn’t wear her rosary around her neck. My dad just died in January and I think the rosary just gives her comfort. HELP! I just don’t know how to tell her kindly or if I even should.
You don’t need to tell her she can’t wear them around her neck because there is nothing wrong with wearing them. In fact, St Louis De Montfort highly recommends that they be worn around the neck and apparently there was once even an indulgence for this. I don’t know if the indulgence still exists, but I think if a Catholic Saint known for his devotion to the rosary says to wear the rosary around your neck, your mom is pretty safe. Leave her be.

If non-Catholics want to wear rosaries too, fine. Let them. Maybe our Blessed Mother will convert them.

If he was wearing the rosary even though he had to hide it under his clothes, maybe it would be an idea to stop and consider the fact that his attachment to it was much more than thinking of it as a simple fashion accessory. Sometimes we have no idea why we do the things we do.

Now wearing rosaries is even becoming, or rebecoming, punk and/or “new wave.” I have a friend who has a cross shaped earing, even though he’s oblivious to all belief systems other than partying. I was even at the holloween store last night and there was a punkrock grrrrl costume in which the model on the cover photo sported a rosary (though the crucifix was an ankh.) I was really surprised.
Iv’e been trying to figure out this recent fascination. I think maybe the whole catholic thing “looks cool”. Around the college here there’s even some gothik vampyres that wear rosaries, but they’re black, bwaahaahhaaahhaaa!!!
I don’t really see the harm in all this. It certainly is interesting, a little goofy. But, there’s been gangstas with religious tatoos and virgin mary steering wheel covers. ‘Wuchagonnado?’
Maybe they’ll move on to turbans or third eyes.

When I was at primary school & secondary school the Christian brothers used to wear a large Rosary around their waist, I suppose it’s in the intent, do we wear it as a fashion statement or for the Love of God & his holy mother ?

I can’t see any harm in wearing it around the waist or the neck, but if it’s worn in mockery then thats a different story.

OK off the cuff here, but why does this :o here come up purple on my pc, surely it should be red or am I COLOR=COLOUR 😉 blind ?

For me, there is nothing more beautiful than a rosary in the hands of a devout person of prayer. I also agree that just the touch of a rosary can bring comfort. I will say however I’m not comfortable with a rosary as a fashion statment.

We cannot know what is in the heart of the one wearing the rosary, but we can certainly see that persons actions. For someone who outwardly defies the teaching of the Church and wears a rosary (Britney Spears, Madonna), I see that as not only wrong, but mocking our Blessed Mother and her Son Jesus Christ.

Let us not forget the statment Madonna made when asked why she wore a crucifix during the making of the video “Like a Prayer” … " I like it. It has a naked man on it."

Let us all pray for them.

Jesus, I Trust in You!

just thought i’d update this thread to note that i saw hilary duff wearing a rosary on conan o’brien tonight. i don’t know what religion she is or how mature her faith life is, but in this context i found it somewhat offensive. it was worn in combination with a couple of necklaces and large dangly earrings and seemed to be part of an ostentatious fashion statement. at first i thought it may just be beads shaped like a rosary (which i have seen in several ads and whatnot), but then i noticed the medal with the bvm showing. i was not too impressed.
