Another thread got me thinking - and I’m not sure if I’ve wondered about it before. Are Rosaries not valid or good, if they are not blessed? Does the same hold true for Brown Scapulars, Crucifixes or other Sacramentals? Holy Water is a given - these other items, I’m questioning.
Thanks, in advance.

I think the last preayer of the Rosary answers the question.

It says :"O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon** these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary**, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. "

I used to pray with an unblessed Rosary until i had this same doubt. After that i got a blessed Rosary ring. I still have my old rosary and sometimes i just use it to count beads. Can anyone tell us more about this?

I think that a Brown Scapular, on the other hand, must be blessed (visit carmelnet.org/scapular/scapular.htm) in order to fully participate in the devotion.

Here’s a bit of an explanation about blessing rosaries from the Diocese of Palm Beach:

When you get a new Rosary, take it to a priest and have it blessed. Remember, the blessing of the Church on your Rosary makes it a sacramental. That means when you use your Rosary beads with devotion, you receive the help of the entire prayer of the Church. Using a sacramental brings special help from God to grow in holiness.

To foster the love of and universal use of the Rosary, the popes have given priests the power to bless the Rosary, and when they do each bead carries with it an indulgence.

As far as the scapular, you need to have it blessed and be enrolled the first time you get one. Here’s a page with the blessing to be used.

Blessing objects sets them aside for religious use and makes them sacramentals.
