We went to visit our daughter at Lackland AFB and went to mass with her and our son in law… The mass was geared more to military and younger but it was very nice. At the end of mass all military were reminded that they could attend classes to learn about the faith every Sunday. They also had a stack of prayer books and rosaries that were offered for anyone who wanted them.
I was very impressed. I brought a rosary to give to my daughter that I had for about 40 years and she gave me the one that was made by (I think) the rosary army. It is very nice. Whoever made it took much care. What a wonderful ministry, I hope they know how much these rosaries mean to the service men and women.
God bless,

when we made rosaries during the Gulf war we were instructed the had to be knot rosaries, or wood and string, no metal parts, don’t know if this restriction still applies. Contemplation Corner Press (.com) has a great pocket prayerbook for soldiers.

yes it does.

The rosaries must be knot or non-metalic (wood\ flat plastic) and should be either flat black, dark brown or olive.

The key is they should not be reflective, glossy or bright in any way.

rosaries always help… I will say mine tonight for the military personal…

GOD BLESS–JMJ
Laura 🙂

If anyone would like to make military rosaries, the supplies are inexpensive and can be obtained from “Our Lady’s Rosary Makers”
They will send instructions and they are pretty easy. Also, easy to transport. I make mission rosaries (my four year old will count beads for me and my seven year old feeds them on) and it is the same pattern only in the dark colors.

This rosary was blue plastic with a plastic crucifex and knotted cord. What a wonderful, meaningful gift for those attending mass at Lackland.

That is so wonderful! I’m a part of a military parish, and while I haven’t seen the rosaries at our Masses, I have to say I think it sounds like a beautiful gift for our men and women in service.

Our services and even education classes are geared more toward the military lifestyle as well, I’m currently in RCIA which was intensified to be able to do it all in about a year.

Peace be with you,
Jamie

What a neat thing you are all doing!!

I do have a question. I am part of a Bible study here on our base. There are both Catholics and Protestants who attend. We had the subject of the rosary come up, and I would like to give the other ladies one (the Protestants). I called the base chapel and asked where I could get one (we’re in the deep south - not many Catholic Bible stores around), and they told me a store that can order them. I went there, and the cheapest one was $30! Does anyone know where I can find pretty ones cheap? Any recommended websites?

If you just use your web browser with the key word rosary many will pop up. I find that the orders, like the Shrine of the Divine Mercy has many items that are not really expensive. So does the Oblates of Mary Imaculate.
