Typically they are knotted, not beadworks; 33, 50, 100, and 103 knots are the common sizes, tho’ not the only ones.

It’s insanely difficult though. They’re really only made with wool yarn or nylon(silk) floss. I’ve seen some made with wooden beads, but the idea is for them not to make noise (and be distracting) so I don’t really think that’s a very good way to go. Prayer ropes are typically made in monasteries and sold to help the communities so generally lay persons leave it to them.
