Rosary 54 day Novena why the thanksgiving

I am just asking why do you need to pray the thanksgiving peace of the rosary novena even if the miracle hasn’t happened.

The reason I ask is as you are basically thanking for nothing. For saying no.

I’m aware of the 54 day Novena for our Nation going on in USA, but we are not praying for a miracle. It’s not like Mary is going to show up on a cloud over the White House on Day 54.

Giving Thanks as part of a novena is an expression of confidence that God and His Blessed Mother will handle things in the best way, as they see fit. Which might very well be saying “No”.

In addition to this, we should be giving thanks every minute that we’re here drawing breath on this earth and not just wait for God to do something for us first.

I don’t live in the united States so wasn’t involved in the one you are talking about I was praying for a personal issue to be resolved. It just seems odd to pray for a thanksgiving regardless of whether your suffering is ended.

I do pray and thank God on a daily basis anyhow. but you are literally praying the thanksgiving part of the rosary novena to say thanks for doing what ever your petition is.
 
When you ask someone for a favor, or a consideration, don’t you say “thanks” at the end of the request?

Can you give me a ride to the store please? Thanks.

Simply courtesy. Why do you believe the Lord doesn’t appreciate courtesy. :confused:

It’s a demonstration of faith and of acceptance of God’s will. By praying in thanksgiving, we also surrender to God’s will. No matter what the outcome we’re grateful for whatever we’ve received, even if we don’t understand what it is. We’re also thankful solely for the privilege of praying 54 rosaries, of spending that much time with our Blessed Mother.

People pray for miracles each and every day. And there is nothing wrong in doing so.

However, at times we need to step back and see a broader picture.

In most instances, what we are asking for is our perception of what is best - for example, a cure from cancer. and asking for a cure from cancer is not morally wrong; however, being cured from cancer may not be what God has in mind as best.

Numerous also are the parents, for example, who pray for their children to return to the Church. And numerous are the parents whose children do not return to the Church; or at times, return, but not within the lifetime of the parent.

Perhaps, from what you have said, it might be important to slightly redirect your novena; for a change which you request, and the grace and wisdom to accept if it does not change, and the wisdom and courage to face the trial you have if it does not change.

Fr. Solanus Casey was famous for saying “thank God ahead of time”. (He’s set for a November beatification in Detroit, I believe.)

Incorporating your gratitude ahead of time is in that same spirit. You know all prayer gets answered— but the answer, or the timeline, isn’t necessarily what we expect (or want). So it’s an example of both trust and humility-- trusting that God’s will be done, regardless of whether or not it aligns with our own will.
