Also important to remember is that the Mosque is not going to be built at “ground zero”, it is more than a block away from that site.

Again, no one has answered my initial question.

Are you aware that a large number of muslims died in the building collapse.

A memorial park would be a great idea! I’d definitely be on board with that.
Thanks for the support. Unfortunately, it will never happen. The idea was proposed long ago and promptly dismissed. The real-estate developers and greed (which are pretty much synonymous in this city) won out. So what we’re left with is for-profit construction and a rather hideous memorial. Which, of course, means (a) a bare minimum (read: hardly any) of “green space” and (b) no fitting resting place for the departed, although the “spirit of capitalism” is alive and well. 😦

I have to say I am very sad and disgusted by this. To use the Rosary for clearly hateful reasons is sickening.
I think this topic is a misapplication of the rosary, and because of that I don’t think it will make any difference at all.

Yes. And larger numbers of others died that day. The point?
The point? Would people be upset if this building, over a block away, was going to be a Church or a Synagogue?

Does the religion of murders automatically make that religion suspect? These were Islamic Fundamentalists who twist their religion.

Again, I am not sure where I stand on this issue, it is something for deep thought but I think the matter has been settled and the Mosque will be built.

Excellent point, and the answer would be an indication of whether or not blocking the building permit is a violation of religious freedom, i.e., if a church or synagogue would not be blocked.

If it were merely a “house of worship” it would be one thing but I’m not thrilled with the idea of erecting a “community-center-cum house-of-worship” for any group in an area that has little residential population. One could easily get the idea that there is a hidden agenda behind the plan. Gee, I wonder … :hmmm:

And I suppose to hell with rebuilding St Nicholas. After all, they’re only Orthodox: they don’t get the good press that non-Christians do.

I know my prayers are not going to be against anything… but for an increased awareness of the oneness of mankind - and that Catholics will lead the move back to civility, away from hysteria, fear driven hate… to quote Donald Glass** “After all, Islam did not kill 3,000 people. Hatred and religious intolerance did.” **

May we be people of peace - and take into our hearts what Jesus told us — “Do not be afraid.” God is with us, and “God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but rather that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:17). God is with us for good.

Please be willing to break the cycle of hate. Today - we can do it today.

Our nation must be mindful that there are thousands of Arab-Americans who live in New York City, who love their flag just as much as [we] do. And we must be mindful that as we seek to win the war, that we treat Arab-Americans and Muslims with the respect they deserve … the attitude of this government [is] we should not hold one who is a Muslim responsible for an act of terror. We will hold those who are responsible for the terrorist acts accountable and those who harbor them.
-President George W. Bush

Did you guys ever hear of the Battle of Lepanto?
Yes I know it well. The Rosary was used as tool of defense to bring about peace, there is a difference.

Do you think Our Lady would want us to use the Rosary to promote hate?

Do you think Our Lady would have rather had a conversion at Lepanto or a batttle?

For starters, it seems most of the complaining is from media mouths and not the Orthodox Archbishop or Orthodox community. If you go to the church’s webpage there is no complaints listed that I can find. So unless someone has a quote from the Archbishop contrasting his faith’s plight vs. the Muslim center’s, I suggest they be left out of a fight aren’t willing to enter.
Secondly, St. Nicholas church is actually part of Ground Zero. That means its incorporated in with every other aspect of rebuilding the area. According to the [NYT](http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/03/nyregion/03trade.html?pagewanted=1&n=Top/Reference/Times Topics/People/B/Bagli, Charles V&_r=1) there’s 26 inter-related projects across 16 acres. Everything at Ground Zero is overdue and overcost. Some projects have to be completed first before others can begin. There’s also still back and forth going on over the size of the new church as well as how much money the Port Authority is going to kick in.

It seems to me that comparing St. Nicholas to the Muslim center is apples to oranges…

Do you honestly think we are not being invaded, and that Islam is not out to take over the world? The only thing that has changed is tactics.

OK, let’s see. The list of groups trying to take over the world: Muslims, Jews, Freemasons, and the New World Order. Anyone else?

Search my posts and find one where I accuse Jews and the New World Order of anything. As for Freemasons, Pope Leo XIII had very little good to say about them, and there is a reason it is still a mortal sin for a Catholic to be a Freemason.

P.S. Click my blog link in my signature and search for a single anti-Semitic rant.

I wasn’t accusing you. I was just adding Muslims to the list of groups we’ve all been told at one time or another were trying to take over the world.

Baloney. What you did was imply that I have accused Jews, Freemasons and the New World Order of trying to take over the world. As far as Jews and the “New World Order” goes, that is false. This was an attempt at slander.

You forgot Zionists and they are probably a bigger threat then all of the other four you stated.
Do some research and you will find the zionist involvement in Russia in 1913.

It was not an attempt at slander or an implication upon you. Are you really unaware that many groups and inviduals accuse Jews, freemasons, and a new world order of trying to take over the world? I was merely adding Muslins to the long list of groups we’ve all been told are trying to take over the world.
For the love of all that is holy, it was clearly a sarcastic statement and not an accusatory one.

Ah yes, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is indeed required reading for any conspiracy theorist.
