How much and how often do you pray?

At this point I am praying the Rosary, Divine Mercy, and saying other prayers once a day. Some days I am able to pray the Chaplets of Mary. I feel I need to start making sure we pray at meal time. I have prayers on my phone that are set for specific times of day but honestly forget about them. I am finding as I pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy that without trying that I am actually remembering the prayers. That is shocking to me as I have a very hard time remembering things. God is working indeed. I have kept up with praying off and on during the day the way I have always prayed and it is feeling more and more empty because I just feel like I am rambling, I lose train of thought and so on. I know there is not set amount of prayers or times a day that we should pray but I am just curious as to what everyone does. My prayer life has changed so much in this short amount of time. I know it will get only better. I feel so close to the Lord, a lot closer than I have ever felt and I didn’t know that was possible.

I always prayed every day but in my own short versus but to truly commit to prayer such the Rosary, i started to commit to only one day. The first thing i knew, i couldn’t be one day without doing the Rosary. It is one of my favorite prayer.

I am trying to devote to the divine Mercy and we aren’t doing praying every meal but when we think of it, we do.

I think what is important, isn’t the quantity but the quality we spend with God, the saint or the Virgin Mary. I make sure to pray from my heart and i watch that it isn’t a routine. I love praying as much as i have the time, it is just amazing to have this bound with God this way.

All the best!

It is amazing indeed!!!

sadly I usually only pray the Rosary once a week before Sunday Mass. I pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy almost daily! I do my morning, noon and nightly prayers as well as Litgury of Hours daily also. Prayer should be a major part of everyone’s life and a tool for our faith and the faith of others! 👍

Prayer is an amazing tool. I feel like after I pray my faith has grown. I will have to look up the Liturgy of Hours.

Prayer is an amazing tool. I feel like after I pray my faith has grown. I will have to look up the Liturgy of Hours.
Liturgy of Hours or Divine Office (Latin: Officium Divinum) or canonical hours, often referred to as the Breviary, is the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church to be recited by clergy, religious institutes, and laity. It consists primarily of psalms supplemented by hymns and readings. Together with the Mass, it constitutes the official public prayer life of the Church. Upon ordination to the Diaconate, the daily recitation of the Liturgy of the Hours becomes a canonical obligation. The Liturgy of the Hours also forms the basis of prayer within Christian monasticism.

I pray the rosary every single day and I at least get in four or five divine mercy chaplets every week but I have not started praying it every day.
In the mornings, I pray the morning offering:
O Jesus,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works,
joys and sufferings
of this day for all the intentions
of Your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world,
in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends,
and in particular
for the intentions of the Holy Father.
Amen.
I also try to every day read some sort of Catholic book written by the Saints. Like right now, I am reading some of St. Faustina’s Diary every single day to make sure my life is centered around Catholicism.
And I try to pray the Liturgy of the Hours according to the one volume Christian Prayer almost daily but it is hard to take time during the day to remember to pray them.

Excellent…Dianna, often times my mind wonders also during prayer…I think that’s called being human…but when I realize it, I redirect…and continue…The Rosary…I try to pray it daily…just a note…I once heard a beautiful response to Fundamentlist Protestant accusing us of rambling/repeating prayers…think of a mother rocking her baby and repeating I love you I love you I love you…I try to remind myself of that …the mantra associated with the praying the Holy Rosary…beautiful…I’m always amazed when I hear people looking for peace in Yoga and other forms of meditation…when as Catholics…we have the perfect prayerful meditation which is truly Christocentric…the Holy Rosary…sounds like you’re on the right track…it’s pleasure being on this site…to meet other devout Catholics devoted to prayer…Pax

Once we get moved I will be checking out the library.
I was checking this out last night secure.marianweb.net/giftshop/product.php?PID=27110021 and it is now on the top of my list of books and stuff I want to get. It has the diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska. It is a good thing I don’t have a credit card because I could have easily maxed it out by now.

I am enjoying hearing how everyone prayers. I am so thankful to the Lord for showing me how wonderful prayer can be and how much closer I can be to Him.

In the morning I pray to God, Mary, Joseph and to St. Michael. I also say prayers for my three children. Then throughout the day it depends on what I can do…sometimes it’s the rosary, or the Divine Mercy chaplet, or other prayers that come to my mind. Other times if someone I don’t normally think of pops into my head I will pray for them, or if I hear a fire truck/ambulance/police care I pray and at night I say my 12 year prayers, the act of contrition after pondering over my day and perhaps one or two other prayers from my Pieta prayer book.

I thought I would post a question here instead of starting a new thread lol

I just got my Rosary in the mail. It hit me once it was in my hands that I don’t know if there is a proper way to hold during prayer. Is there a way that makes it going from bead to bead easy? Any suggestions would be great. I did a search on YouTube but couldn’t find anything regarding holding it.

I’m right-handed so I hold the Crucifix in my right hand (to start with the Apostles Creed), and use left hand to hold the other hanging beads. Then ‘feed’ the beads through my right fingers as I go from prayer to prayer. I have a Divine Mercy Rosary and the glass beads are a red/garnet in color. They remind me of His Precious blood.

As far as I know, there’s really no set - perfect - way to hold them.

My suggestion is to hold them however you feel comfortable and go from there.

I have a Divine Mercy Rosary on my wishlist at Amazon. Found a beautiful one.

Last night when I used my Rosary it really helped with my focus. I loved explaining to my boys how it is used for prayer.

The Rosary must be prayed all 3 decades per day that is what our lady said at Fatima. Its important to note that we have 150 psalms and if you read about the origin of the rosary it was a prayer for those people who couldn’t read or write properly. St. Dominic then had a vision from our Blessed Mother and then preached about the rosary around the world.

The pre-Catholic period people prayed the 150 psalms everyday that tradition isn’t followed much these days.

Pray sincerely and consistently I would say at-least 2 or 3 hours per day for the Lord 🙂

Why 3 decades when there are 5? Just trying to understand.

Wow, that is a lot of Psalms to pray in a day. That shows amazing dedication to those who still do that.

If I had to guess I would say I am praying about an hour a day maybe a bit more. I do want that to change. I believe prayer is the most important thing we can do. I am overwhelmed with all the prayers but I am putting together the ones that I feel I am lead to. I know more will be added to that.

TwinMommy, if you don’t have the money for new books (who does anymore), go used. There’s one place on the internet that sells a used copy of the Diary for four dollars. :yup: There are many religious-themed books that sell for a song. I paid $0.99 for a “like-new” copy of The Secret of the Rosary by Louis De Montfort. Can’t beat that with a stick…

PM me and I’ll give you a few websites where I’ve gotten some good deals

I forgot to mention something about the point of this thread. We’re all talking about the how, when and why of praying, which is very good. Recently, for some reason which only the Lord knows, I have been exceedingly interested in Blessed JPII’s spirituality. In my readings, I found out that the Holy Father prayed about seven hours every day. Seven hours! Makes everything I do seem absolutely puny by comparison! 🙂 Thank goodness the Lord also rewards for trying!

Yeah makes it seems like so very little. Yes, we are blessed by His mercy!!

I am also trying to develop a more structured or consistent prayer life. At the moment, I pray the Divine Mercy chalet daily and a decade of the Rosary each evening with my children. In addition to that are my personal prayers to God, spiritual reading and daily Mass (when I can).
