Rosary beads

I have a beautiful Rosary that I carry everywhere with me as it is a physical reminder to adhere to the things I pray about and it helps me to stay on track on my path to becoming a baptised Catholic one day as well as praying the traditional prayers that the Rosary is used for… I was wondering is it a bad thing to carry it with me all the time and if I accidentally break or lose it what do I do? Am I able to just purchase another? Can I only own one set at a time or am I able to purchase another set or be given a second set as a gift? I feel silly asking but im unsure! Thank you 🙂
 
It is a good thing to carry your Rosary with you! I love that you do this. And yes, you can own as many at a time as you want to own. If the one you are carrying breaks, you might want to see if you can get it repaired. You are not required to, of course, but if you like it that is one possibility.
 
You are free to carry a rosary with you whenever you like. There are many religious who have a 15 or 20 decade rosary as part of their habits. I like to think of it as carrying a picture of your mother around with you. 😃

If you lose it or if it breaks just buy a new one and get it blessed by a priest.

You can have as many rosaries as you like. I used to collect them but I pull to hard on my rosaries .😃 I just bury them if they break.

I carry my rosary with me, in a little pouch, wherever I go. I’m never without it when I leave home. I pray at least one set of mysteries every day. Also, deacons are allowed to bless rosaries, the same as priests. This quote is from another CAF post:

"The Book of Blessings (published by Congregation for Divine Worship) decrees that deacons may bless certain sacramentals. The Congregation for the Divine Worship lists out those sacramentals that a deacon may bless.

It states that deacons may bless rosaries (BOB §1465). Other items that Deacon’s can bless include “medals, small crucifixes statues or pictures that will be displayed elsewhere than in a church or chapel, scapulars, rosaries, or other articles used in religious devotions” (BOB §1442)."

I, too carry my Rosary with me at all times. Although I have several Rosaries I prefer a simple one decade one, a reminder of the Penal Rosaries used in Ireland, when it was a punishable offence to carry, much less say, a rosary. It reminds me of how ordinary people in many place, still suffer for their Faith, and how much I complain, when I could be offering up little troubles.

If you are looking for something that might be a bit more durable (and maybe a tad more space saving), you could look into getting a Rosary ring. Usually consisting of only one decade (so you’d have to go around 5 times to complete a whole set of mysteries), but they are smaller (hence ring), and also usually made of metal. My mom has one that she uses at work, and has given one to my little sister as well.
 
Why is it necessary to have a rosary blessed? You can pray the rosary without beads. Is it not the prayers that reach God? Now, I have several rosaries, do not use the same one everyday. I thought the praying was the important thing. 🤷
 
Another good un-breakable rosary you can carry around with you in your pocket is a knot rosary…There are some good you-tube videos on how to make them yourself. hemp cord is inexpensive to buy and you can go with or without beads on it.👍
 
Good to hear from a rosary devotee.

I like the look of those designer beads from the Marians but I’m just too hard with them.

I mostly always keep a pair with me and have broken quite a few of them…the beads split in half and fall off. After awhile it becomes an additional effort to keep track of the prayers so I just set the broken rosary’s aside.

Once I gave a few broken rosary’s to a lady at church that makes up new ones and before that I left some at an adoration chapel where I saw other broken beads and figured …why not?

Now I use the cheepo plastic ones with the waxed line that devotee’s string together package up and leave in the vestibule. They hold up very well …not so much for looks.

btw this is 1st Saturday coming up.

It’s not necessary, but recommended. A blessed item is an item dedicated to the work of God. How much more special to use an item dedicated to God than an ordinary item that looks similar?!

And true, you can pray the rosary without beads, but the point of having the physical rosary is to help keep your place (not everyone has that great of a memory). Praying is the important thing; a rosary just helps you do that.
 
I, too, carry a five-decade rosary with me everywhere I go. I am hard on all my belongings, and my rosary is no exception so I bought one that is wire wrapped. Relatively speaking, they are expensive ($50 and up) but mine has, thus far, proven indestructible.

I have more than thirty rosaries, all of them blessed. When at home I tend to pray with a different one every day.

I have never lost a rosary, but these things do happen. Should you lose yours, blessed or not, I wouldn’t worry about it. The Lord knows you did not mean to lose your rosary!

A broken rosary, depending upon its construction, can generally be fixed. I fix my chain link rosaries myself. The wire-wrapped one is guaranteed for life; should it break in the course of normal use, the artisan who made it will fix it free of charge. If your rosary should break in a manner that seems beyond repair, you could bury it, burn it (if combustible) or take it to your parish’s offices and ask them to dispose of it for you. I have heard that many parishes will take broken rosaries that appear hopeless to repair, fix them and then give them to people who need one.
