I get distracted often, leave it until last thing at night when I am tired, have a visitor arrive and have to stop and start. What I think myself is that the Rosary gives me daily time focusing on Jesus life and Ideally I want to be recollected, but I am a work in progress and I do what I can.

That is what I would focus on if I were you, that it helps keep you closer to Jesus, even if you prayer doesn’t feel like it is being done perfectly.

I’m wondering if I understand your post correctly. When you say “decade” do you mean 10 Hail Marys or five sets of 10 Hail Marys?

Do you never ask your friends and family to pray for you? Do you never pray for your friends and family when asked, or even of your own initiative? What makes you think the Holy Virgin is any different?

No one believes you should adore Mary. Adoration is reserved solely for God. However, we may venerate Mary or any saint, just as we may venerate and respect kings and queens on earth.

Ahhhh I am probably getting things really confused, I think what I mean is the 5 sets of 10 hail Marys’, and for what ever reason don’t ask me why I was calling that a decade.

SO to try an clarify if I totally confused myself and everyone else, I have been under the impression that the correct way to pray the Rosary is 5 sets of hail Marys’ 3 times,

if I am totally confused I will just stick with what I have been doing which is just simply using a standard Rosary that anyone can buy any where from a jewelry shop to a Church gift shop, and pray that one time around.

for some reason I thought the Rosary was meant to be prayed 3 times… why I have no idea anymore.

I, too, have a direct relationship with Christ; He is my God, my only God, with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

I do enjoy the ‘friendship’ of the saints, angels, and Mary; Jesus Himself told us that she is our mother, as some of His last words on the Cross.

As long as I have no other God, the friendships are not a problem. Let’s not confuse words that have many definitions. We worship only God, and nothing and no one else. We can love and respect the saints, angels and Mary. As long as we are using ‘adore’ in the love and respect context, it is not a problem.

I respect your right not to have relationships with Mary and the saints. Please respect others who choose to do so, and as I said, are encouraged to do so in many ways (yes, I know the difference between encouraged and required).

Praying the Rosary is indeed meditating upon and honoring Our Lord. The Lord is in every decade and we see the Lord oft times through the eyes of Mary, His Mother.

It is the*** work*** of prayer to immerse one’s self into each mystery, to fight the evil one’s distractions that he wages against us, wages against us via the ‘chinks’ of our Christian armor. Chinks of sloth, lusts, anxiety, attachments to the world and the like. We* fight* to get to know Our Lord and he* sees* this. He refreshes us with gifts both temporal and eternal. He takes the warmth of our hearts during the Rosary and warms other souls with His Love in unison, if I understand arightly. His heart aches to give us the good things of heavenly zeal. We help Him spend His mercy when we place ourselves in His service with the recitation of the Rosary.

When considered what is at work in the Rosary, the burden becomes easier - yes?

You have distractions during the Rosary? Good! You are fighting the good fight then. You are facilitating the reversal of the sin that is in ourselves. In our nation. In our world.
 
Hey thanks. And agree on the definitions. Adoration is same as worship thus should only apply to deity.

Its an individual choice, as I prefer the direct relationship with Christ. But I can see your point of view in needing a mediator. There is no right or wrong answer. As I prefer the Lord’ prayer. Thanks.

First, apologies going to the OP for the derailment of this thread.

Second, I appreciate the various viewpoints that have come out of this thread, mostly.

Minnesota1, welcome to CAF! Again, I ask you for respect for my beliefs as I have been respecting yours. As I said, adoration has more than one meaning, and I explained why it is ALSO used as ‘love’. I have not come at you and said my way is better, like you have implied yours are. Nor have I twisted your words around. That is not a mature way to have proper discourse. Thinly veiled criticisms and jabs at those who do respect Mary, the Rosary, and other Church traditions, is very disrespectful. Please do not discourage those who wish to do so; it can be especially confusing for people who are new to the Church or to various traditions. Mary is highly revered, respected, venerated, blessed by most of the Catholic faithful. It isn’t that we ‘need’ a mediator (you going directly to Christ doesn’t mean you have less need than anyone else, or a better relationship with Jesus); it’s that it’s a Grace and Blessing that is offered to us. Who would turn down a Gift from our Creator, our Lord, our Savior? He has given us His MOTHER!

I’m getting the feeling, however, that you are on this thread, enjoying poking and agitating people. If that is not your intent, my apologies, but that is how it is coming across.

Yes, the 5 sets of Hail Marys (each 10 beads are a decade) are what makes up most of the Rosary as we use it. However, there used to be 3 sets of mysteries (now there are 4); so if you were to want to pray the complete set of mysteries, all 15, that would be 3 times (now 4, counting Luminous). I hope this helps.

I didn’t have time to read all of the other replies, so pardon me if this has already been mentioned. Ironically just last night I watched a YouTube of Archbishop Fulton Sheen on The Rosary. And he talked about this exact thing. In fact he encouraged us to do whatever we could to get in a decade at a time all throughout the day so that at the end of the day, we could complete all 15 decades. He encourages carrying it, walking the streets with it, praying in line, using bumps on the car steering wheel if you forgot your Rosary etc. It was a great program - if you have the time it’s worth a listen.

I used to do it when driving, but I almost feel like it’s a cheap way out. You have nothing better to do when you’re driving so you pray a Rosary. I feel like it’s more meaningful if you take some of your free time and do it. It’s just getting into that habit isn’t all too easy. Doing it before going to bed is difficult because you get tired late at night. The Rosary is pretty comforting and relaxing :p.
