In the fifth Sorrowful Mystery we contemplate the crucifixion and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Meditation: *Having arrived at the height of Calvary, Our Lord Jesus Christ was despoiled of his tunic and nailed to the tree upon which He would suffer the torture of a slow and horrible death. The Redeemer nailed to the cross was a spectacle that moved Heaven and earth. An omnipotent God, Lord of all, expiring upon an infamous scaffold, condemned like a malefactor between two criminals! What an amazing spectacle of justice, love and mercy. A God that offers and gives up his life to redeem his creatures.

At the foot of the cross of Jesus was his mother, who far from abandoning Him on top of Golgotha, drew even closer to her dying Son, in order to help Him, comfort Him, and unite herself to Him in the consummation of His holocaust.

In this mystery, we ask the Most Holy Virgin for the conversion of sinners, the perseverance of the just and the relief of the souls in purgatory.*

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
