Does anyone know if the Bishop of Cleveland has changed his mind about Holy Love ministries? He wrote a decree in 2009 saying there was nothing Supernatural going on there, forbid priests to go there and admonished Catholics to not go there either. If so, doesn’t that mean we should not use that particular Rosary that Maureen Sweeney sells? More and more people are using that Rosary, and I always wonder if they know about the decree, if they just don’t care, or if the decree has been lifted. Anyone know?

I pray the rosary for the unborn. I did not know about the decree. Does this mean we can not use the meditation and rosary anymore?

I don’t see anything that says we can’t use the rosary - I use it in church when we all say the rosary together, and at Planned Parenthood. I don’t use their meditation though.

I never heard of this Rosary before. Here is a good article that may help give you some direction:

I don’t think there are any rules on who can make and sell Rosaries…but considering the disobedience of this organization I would definitely not buy the Rosary and if I already had one I would not use it anymore. This is mainly because if you use this in public you are promoting an organization that is not operating in unity with the Church. Even if you side with the bishop you may inadvertently steer people away from the Church.

It’s too bad that things worked out this way because that Rosary has an interesting design…it’s just unfortunate that it was promoted in the manner it was.

😦 I know the rosary was expensive. I didn’t realize that the promoters stated that it would save a baby with every decade prayed. It is very eye-catching and also represents in a very visual way, the babies being aborted there at the abortion clinic.

But I will put it away if it really is this much of a problem. I don’t want to support schism or heresy or whatever it is.

Maybe you should take it to your priest, along with a copy of the decree and see what he says. It is all very confusing to me. I am concerned about the number of people using it when the Bishop said to stay away from that place. If it is really true, then of course I want to use it, also, but some of the messages seem wrong to me. We can’t talk about those here, so I won’t. However, some priest around where I live is blessing the rosaries, so either he has no idea about this place or he disagrees with the Bishop of Cleveland.

I had mine blessed when I got it. I did read some of the website and it seemed a little “out there,” but I didn’t know that there was any problem just using the rosary as a prayer aid.

If it is a problem, then some faithful Catholic should start making a similar product, because pro-lifers sure loved this one.

I was told that the rosary was fine. It is the visions that are not approved and of course not to visit the site. Mine was also blessed by my priest.

The meditations are from priests for life. So I can continue to use them. 🙂

Actually, the prolife group will not advise people to use this rosary or even buy it.

I also bought one of the these rosaries a few years ago but at the time I didn’t know very much about it and the bishop’s decree. Back then I had it blessed by a priest and since it is now a valid sacramental I see no problem using it. I would not do so in public however, to not encourage others to fall for this ministry. And of course I disregard anything Holy Love is saying about it, the promises etc. I do love the symbolism though, even if it is a bit tacky with all the plastic. 😉

So I would not advise anyone to buy this rosary but if you have already done so I think it’s okay to use it privately at home.

I was interested in hearing a professional opinion on this so I tossed a few questions over to the “Ask an Apologist” forum.

I looked at it from a couple different angles (currently own it…priest blessed it…want to use it…etc). I’ll let you know when they answer. My concern would be if you still use it and someone else it interested in buying one you could send them down a wrong path.

I don’t think buying the rosary would really be that bad except that they are still holding to their claims that the bishop has not approved…if they did not promote the story and claims along with the rosary I think it would be a different story.

I had one of those, I found it to be creepy - Nah. I will use a regular rosary, pray the meditations from Priests for Life and know that the little plastic embryos do not make the prayers any more effacious.

I am so glad you thought of asking an Apologist! Please do let us know if they answer your question. Could you explain your last paragraph? I’m a little confused as to what you are saying.

I’ve been praying a lot about this and asking for discernment. I still feel uncomfortable with the Holy Love place. Also, they trademarked the rosary. If each prayer said on that rosary saved a baby, wouldn’t you want other companies to copy it so it would be even more available for the public to use? OR charge only the price of how much it costs to make it? It is very cheaply made, yet they charge $25 for it, last I looked.

Sure…if you look at the website that is creating and selling these rosaries they are still promoting the visions and promises that the local bishop has declared invalid. I think if they were to stop promoting these things it would be a different story.

I belong to a rosary group, and they are pushing everyone to use this rosary and the messages. They truly believe that a prayer on one of these beads will save the life of a baby, and this will not happen using any other rosary. There is also a threat given to those who are aware of the rosary but do not use it. This made my hair stand on end!

I haven’t seen any answers from the Ask an Apologist forum, yet.

Well, Ask an Apologist answered the question, sort of.

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=641756

This still doesn’t answer the specific questions asked. It only posts what was found on the Diocese of Cleveland’s website and also says that there is a superstition attached to this rosary. Does this mean that all forms of using sacramentals ( scapular, miraculous medal) be considered also superstition? Or are those approved, thus not superstition.

Go ahead and contact Catholic Answers about it, I want to know as well. Many of my pro life friends have this rosary and use it during 40 Days for Life. I do not want to use something that is going to lead others astray. For now, I will refrain and will just use an ordinary rosary.
