Rosary for young children and other lenten ideas

My young daughter will be saying a decade a night before bed, but this does not seem special enough for her as she already says the Hail Mary every night anyway. She thinkls it’s just repeating the prayer.
How can I make this more special? What other lenten things can we do besides giving up something?
Any links or suggestions for a young age child would be appreciated!

I was considering that most night, we will led a candle and make a special prayer to God and do a reflection according to the Mass topic.

I like the candle idea too. We started lighting candles during Advent when we prayed the family rosary and it made the kids really excited about praying each night.

This is a great plan !
Maybe you could incorporate a Scripture reading as the source of meditation or a pictorial depiction as well. Maybe a candle ligthing or a Statue of Mary too…just some thoughts
 
You don’t say how old your daughter is, so that will influence what you can do. Make a commitment to go to weekly Stations, if your parish offers it? How about having her draw the scene for each decade - - there are rosary bead coloring pages and she can draw each mystery around the beads, etc. Divine Mercy chaplet?

Couple of suggestions:
  1. Pray it with her–don’t just make sure she does it;
  2. Alternate which portions she says, and which you say–or, better still, for the young mind–mix it up (e.g.–we are bilingual–sometimes we’ll recite a few in spanish, in between the english; or, one kid will start, anotehr will finish a HM; or I’ll ‘lead’, they’ll respond…and back and forth);
  3. Have the bible verses for each mystery handy (book marked)–read those with her–(or one of those prepared rosary meditations), discuss them–make it crystal clear to her, what you are meditating on as you recite the HM’s of each decade;
  4. Have FUN with it–if she sees you enjoying it, she will enjoy it–if you do it boringly, monotounously, etc.–she may be turned off by it.
That’s what I do with my kids (ages 5-8), anyway–and it works–they remain engaged.
