I have gotten into the habit of saying the Rosary in the car on my short drive to work. Most days I catch my mind wandering here and there. Also, sometimes the end is rushed because I am arriving at my cubicle and become distracted. Is this all okay? Am I still getting any spiritual benefit from this habit? Sometimes I feel I should devote other time to this, but I really do not have a whole lot of free time at all.

Thanks!

It’s always good to pray. It is understandable to be distracted. I pray while driving also.

It is also important to find quiet times during the day when it is easier to focus our attention on the prayer.

I pray while driving as well. I also say the rosary while hiking in the park. I do however make it a priority to find quiet time to pray so I can focus more attentively.

Whenever you find that are distracted, don’t be upset; just refocus your attention on the prayer. We all get distracted often. God sees our intentions and is pleased with our efforts.

If you feel rushed, simply pray 3 decades on the way to work, and save the rest for the drive home. If you are only missing one or two prayers, make the sign of the cross, and when you take your lunch break complete the rest silently, to yourself.
It’s fine.

The rosary is an importantpart of my life – I have a number of rosaries but the one I carry with me at all times was sent to me from my granddaughter in Paris, France and it’s from Notre Dame, Paris – I check to make sure I have it every time I leave my house. I say the first two decades with my first cup of coffee – then the other 2 decades when I’m walking to public transportation – often I dedicate a decade to a close friend who is quite young but has early Alzheimer’s Disease – I couldn’t get through the day without my rosary – I love it!!

This is similar to what I was going to say 🙂 If I know I am particularly pressed for time, I will divide the Rosary up by Mysteries/Decades. Maybe I’ll do a Mystery when waiting in line at the store, then another while walking my dog, then a couple more while driving and it might take till the end of the day, but it may not be until my evening prayers that I have the time and am able to focus kneeling down to finish. As was mentioned it is all in our intention, if our hearts and souls are in the right place despite the distractions of daily life, then I’ve always felt that our prayers are being heard and our devotions ‘count’. God Bless and happy praying :gopray:

I don’t see how you wouldn’t gain at least something from that. The rosary goes pretty quickly at some Churches I’ve been at before Mass.

I pray the Franciscan crown rosary, and since there are 7 mysteries and decades, a don’t always get through it in one setting…even if I fall asleep in bed while finishing, I let the angels finish it for me and start anew the next day.

A quick and/or distracted prayer is better than no prayer at all. A good intention acted upon is better than no action at all. Is anything we do perfect? We do things as well as we can, given the time and resources we have. God knows how much effort we’ve put in and what we can and can’t do.

Great responses, thanks everyone! I didn’t realize it was okay to break up the Rosary over the course of the day - perhaps I will save a decade or two for the drive home.

Also, I was wondering if you all pray the mystery of the day (e.g. Joyful - Monday; Sorrowful - Tuesday; Glorious - Wednesday; Luminous - Thursday; Joyful - Friday) or kind of do whatever you want. Would it be okay on friday to do a “grab bag” and pick 5 decades from a bunch of mysteries? I have a few favorites I look forward to and would love to do a “best of” sort of thing. Sounds a little ridiculous while typing, but I do not know how structured and by the book my prayers need to be. Thanks again.

The rosary is a personal and private devotion, so it’s fine to pray it the way you finds suits you best.

I have a CD of the Rosary. I pray along while I listen to it in the car on the way to work.
I too have fallen asleep at night while praying the rosary.
I find that any time spent in prayer is helpful.

Oh my…! You inspired me! I didn’t know /didnt realise i can dedicate to someone per decade! I always say my intention/dedication in the beginning before i make sign of cross 😃

Thank you.

May God bless you all!
