I just prayed an entire Rosary last night for the first time ever! I am excited about deepening my prayer life, but I don’t really know what I am doing. 🤷

Right now I am using an app on my iPad that takes you through each prayer and bead individually with the mysteries and reflections, but I was wondering how you pray the rosary and what you use. Do you have the entire thing memorized including the luminous, glorious, etc… mysteries? Do you carry cards with these on them? Basically I kneed the 411 on good approaches for a beginner who doesn’t have a bunch of time (I’m a college student athlete who is doing BSN in nursing).

Any tips or recommended products to help would be appreciated! Thanks

I picked up my first Rosary when I was in elementary school. I am now in my thirties and still use an iPhone app or a booklet almost every time I pray a Rosary. Our parish priest was ordained in the 70s and says he still uses a booklet to pray his daily Rosary. 🙂

It’s easy for me to forget the mysteries, even if I’ve been praying the Rosary on a regular basis. My memory kinds stinks. Having a booklet or iPhone app helps me with the mysteries so I’m not getting distracted by trying to remember.

The app alone is great especially if you’re on the go a lot and don’t always remember to take a Rosary with you. Sometimes during a particularly busy day I might be able to spare five minutes here and there. My iRosary app holds my place if I can only pray a portion of the Rosary. There are free Rosary apps out there and this one is paid, but I find it worth the money because the interface and customization are better than any other apps I’ve found, and the artwork is beautiful and (for me) aids in prayer.

I love praying the Holy Rosary…good for you…and, excellent…praying the ENTIRE rosary…I personally rotate all but the Luninous…I’m ashamed I just haven’t taken the time to learn this mystery on Jesus’ life…but I will now…I pretty pray the Rosary througout the day…even if I can’t really access my Beads…I can still pary and keep track in my head…I find if you have a booklet with some particuar picture of each mystery it’s easy to visualize that picture while meditating on that particular mystery…i.e. the agony in the garden…(Jesus seated, visualizing all of the sins in/of the world)…you may also already be aware…but there is what is called the Scriptural Rosary…where there is a little meditation accompanying each Ave Maria (Hail Mary)…takes a little longer but if you have the time and are so inclined there is a booklet…the last couple of Popes have encouraged Catholics to learn the basic prayers in Latin…this beautiful ancient language, I find brings me closer to my meditation…ofcourse, we all know that the prayers are no less effective in our own tongue…but for me it is a beautiful experience to pray it in the Language of Mother Church…good luck in yr studies…

Dlobrien welcome! I’m a nurse too. My favorite booklet of meditations on the Rosary is Rosary Novenas To Our Lady by Benziger Press. I like the original version with publication dates 1924 and 1954 on the inside flap. It doesn’t have the Luminous mysteries though. Its a 54 day novena, 3 in petition and 3 in thanksgiving.

I wrote the Luminous for myself on the inside so I can say that when I want to.

As a nurse its hard to have your beads with you! I will write down hash marks on scrap paper throughout my shift instead. Usually I pray in the car though.

I am easily distracted but I think I’ve found a way to keep focused.

I bought the mysteries of the Rosary on CD and put it in my iPod. While listening I use a booklet called Praying the Rosary Without Distractions. 👍

After not much time I memorized the mysteries. You will do that too and it will save you the time for which you are looking.

I hope this thread still gets views in case it can help the OP or anyone else. I really didn’t want to say the Rosary tonight. I wanted to read or play solitaire on my smart phone.

So, I grabbed my Rosary and began…distractions poured in. I probably spent (wasted) a half hour distractedly trying to get through the Resurrection.

Then I got my phone and opened it up to Google images and typed in “the resurrection”. With each swipe, a new representation was before me.

I said two Rosaries.

Hope that might help anyone.

I have it all memorized. Sometimes I use things on my computer…pictures, meditations etc.

I usually get distracted while praying the rosary. I really enjoy listening to it on my MP3 player and praying along in my head. The Gregorian music plays in the background of the app, and it helps quiet my thoughts so I can pray and focus. I do have it memorized, but don’t worry if you don’t have it by heart yet. Memorization comes with praying it often. You’ll get there!

God Bless!

hi, i recognize your enthusiasm for discovery…i pray the rosary daily-some might advise to pray with, so to speak; or some may suggest to pray ‘to.’ either way, belief is forth coming, and so to the experience of the rosary is forth coming; you might be suprised that there will be predictably less discouragement, in daily life when praying the rosary…as in fact…that is why a soul approaches heaven when discouraged…there are some reading materials and books, father Montfort is one-said to be a bit out of date; i find his advise well stated-simply be reminded often to slow it down-not to race toward the end to get it over with…and simply be reminded to ask for graces-gifts (these could be said to be particular to the needs of the person-as evidenced by the 15 promises of the rosary) ; a road of discovery; i remind my self, as a google search might show, there are actual two people in body in heaven, Jesus and His mother-real bodies there-you see…; to add, i -from habit-practice using imagery-a simple story from verse; images move in my mind-as though a DVD…for each mystery…for instance, jesus baptism…Well, recently, i have had a change of heart-i thought of a large picture, salvation etc; perhaps, i had been wrong all that time previously; today, i should report that the journey is holiness-perhaps, i would have (even in error) chose an easier path to holiness-instead God chooses the path: what is holiness? that’s a difficult one; summized so far, (don’t let me mis lead you) it can be an action-praying the rosary; i would confess that is involves a pure heart…when i pray the rosary-i -for example per this ‘pure’ concept-love the effort that draws in the heart-holiness could be a process including reaching a point to ask for and to recieve all the heart’s desires…could you imagine? all the heart’s desires…those are many on a list so far…one includedis to unite with the heart of jesus-and/or to enter the presence of God…that being said, indeed, i will set my rosary aside knowing all along that i would-just to pray in contemplative ways (change to a different style of prayer such as silence); the rosary is said to be simple, promoted as such…i hope this is not too complicated; hey, no hurry here…to end…the rosary can be a begging prayer as if to melt the ice from the heart…thanks patrick
