this is hillarious!! :rotfl: But it’s bad… if my grandma saw this she’d die very very angry!
Anywho… I guess it’s not just a Mexican thing… good, I thought we were strange 😃 I hang mine on the cigarrette lighter since it’s too small to hang from the rear view mirror. I feel protected when driving, that is why I have it there. I also keep one Pope John Paul II blessed, in my purse. My sister brought it for me when she visited the Vatican and attended Mass said by the Pope. Along withit is a little prayer book

And actually I just hid one in DH’s truck (he’s a JW, so I hope he never finds it), but now I feel safe in that car too.

I’m an German-Irish-Italian American Episcopalian, and I keep a rosary in my car (and one in my purse and at my desk at work). Though I don’t hang it from the rear view mirror because I don’t want anything dangling in the way of my vision of the road…even a rosary. I used to have problems with panic attacks in heavy traffic and I just recently started praying the rosary while in the car. It keeps me calm and considerate of others–no road rage, etc. 🙂

I keep a single decase hanging from my windsheid wiper control… I sometimes have to pray while I drive.

I have one hanging from my rearview mirror, along with my National Parks pass. 🙂

Here in he People’s Republic of Massachusetts, it’s illegal to have anything hanging from your rear view mirror.

Many people ignore it, but the cops can pull you over and ticket you for it.

Besides, many people use rosary beads as an ornament and rarely pray with them.

May God’s peace, love and mercy be with you all!

I have a blessed rosary in my car, pocket of the jacket that I wear, in the purse and also at home. I have given blessed rosaries to friends and family.

One time I had given a blessed rosary to a friend and he had hung it on the rear view mirror and his car was hit by a running train. His car apparently was dragged at least 35 ft. by the train. The miracle was that he was able to come out of the car alive with no injuries and started walking along the railroad tracks. He was telling me that the doctor was telling him that no one survives that kind of accident and couldn’t believe that he survived. His doctor was even trying to convince him take the following day off to rest but since he said he was fine he showed up at work the following day. My friend was very thankful that I gave him the rosary and told me that he really felt that it was the rosary that absorbed the impact of the accident because the rosary actually shattered in pieces and that Our Blessed Mother protected him from the accident. Awesome story of how Our Blessed Mother always protects us!.. God bless!

Blessed be Jesus and Mary!

I have a scapular and a rosary on my rear window.
For me, it reminds me to pray the rosary.

BTW- the “rosaries” hanging from a lot of people’s mirrors are merely beaded circles with crosses on them that are actually car air fresheners. You can buy them at wal-mart. I wouldn’t actually recommend praying with them, the fragrance oil can be corrosive and cause rashes (not fun)

Got my St Christopher chaplet from eBay… very nice, and intended for the rear view mirror so it’s not too large. They aren’t as easy to find now as they were, the woman who sold to me is closing shop due to a loss in her family and she will be missed greatly. Also have a finger rosary around my directional (which glows in the dark)… comes in handy while driving.

(I’m Irish/Sicilian so it’s not just mexicans!)

A lot of our local parish members have the bumper sticker “Say One Hail Mary”… have been meaning to ask someone where they got theirs or if they were made up special just for the parish. Has anyone seen these on cars where they live? Think it’s a great idea… especially because, as one person mentioned earlier, it replaces traffic stress with the reminder to pray to Mary…
and it always works 🙂

🙂 I have a scapular hanging from my mirror in my car but I wanted to put a rosary there to remind me to pray more and thank God more but I was told that hanging a rosary like that is not appropriate:confused: . Does anyone know if I was misinformed? I would love to have a rosary there instead of in my purse… I’m a convert so I’m always learning…:getholy:

Put a rosary there, that’s why mine is there. I take it down and prayer the rosary, and then I put it back. It’s a great reminder tool!

I’ve seen a few people here in California who do have a bumper sticker that says “Say One Hail Mary a Day”…, I’ve also seen many who have a fish with Jesus’ name on the inside… don’t know how to explain it but I want one of those…

Oh and I forgot to mention I also keep a rosary rin in my middle finger. Since DH doesn’t want me wearing a cross on my neck 😦 , I have this on my finger…

I got one in my car hanging from the mirror, I’m Irish/Italian/Basque/Only-God-knows-what-else (EuroMutt). I am also the only person under the age of 30 I have seen doing this in my area. Being in S. Carolina where Catholics make up around 3% of the population, it’s nice to see other’s doing the same as myself while driving down a road with 50+ non-Catholic churches on it.
Plus, when outta town Northerners cut me off in traffic and suddenly slam on their brakes, it helps quell the Dixie Rebel in me that wants revenge…😃 It’s hard to drive like a reckless idiot and give in to road rage with a rosary within eye-sight.

Does anyone, other than Mexican Catholics, place a rosary in their cars?

I keep a small one in my car, so do my mom, brother and sister.

Do any other Catholics do this?
every day, i have a ring rosary i keep in the car and say 5 decades and a divine mercy on the way to work in the morning.

I don’t think it’s just a Mexican thing. Here in Michigan we have a lot of different ethnic backgrounds including, Arabic, Irish, Polish, Albanian, Asian, Italian etc. and I see it on a lot of cars. One of my close friends is 100% Polish and the other is 100% Albanian and they both have one on their mirrors.

I’m an Irish Catholic, I have a blue Rosary on my mirror to match my blue car. I also have a prayer card of St. Christopher placed right above my stiring wheel covering up the part that tells you if your car is over heating…opps probably not a great place.
I can’t imagine not having either one in my car, when I look at my Rosary I get a smile on my face. I know God is protecting me!

A visiting priest gave my oldest son a Rosary as a gift for serving that day and it was placed on the rearview mirror - mid 80s - I still have that Rosary hanging in my van - it has been in every vehicle I have driven since that day. We are Islenos - Spanish from the Canary Islands. My son now 33 also has one in his truck and his wife, who is not Catholic, has one in her van. When he entered the Air Force he left his old truck in our yard and after Katrina I removed the Rosary that had been hanging in there since 1997. I say the Rosary just about every time I am driving and should there be a close call from an accident I touch it and say a prayer of thanks. When I hung that Rosary in the mid 80s I had never seen another one hanging but have seen it grow over the years.

Yep, my husband keeps a pocket rosary in his car but hangs it from the dash board and not the rearview mirror. He says it when he runs in the morning. I keep a pocket rosary with me in my purse and say either the traditional rosary or the chaplet of the divine mercy while driving depending on how much time I have.

I have a small one around the gear lever…the beads are wood and so is the small cross. They are made by a talented parishioner and are sold in our parish shop…very popular here in Africa !!!👍 👍 👍
