I have conservatively 20 to 25 intentions to give to The Blessed Mother when saying the rosary. How many is too many? (not that she can’t handle it)🙂 They are intentions I believe she would approve of…Family intentions, souls in purgatory, soldiers in Iraq, more holy priests etc. but I spend a good 15 minutes talking to her about them before I begin. Sometimes I feel like she’s raising her eyebrows at me.😃 Anyone else do this?

Sometimes I give her a long “laundry list” of intentions. Sometimes only one. Sometimes I allow one person/intention that I am praying for come to mind for each bead (if I run out of people/intentions, I “recycle”). Sometimes I offer the Rosary for HER intentions (which certainly include mine); perhaps that is the best way.

It’s all good. She’s our mother, and she’s happy that we DO pray, and she probably doesn’t want us to worry too much over the details.

Sometimes when I have time…I offer a Hail Mary for each intention. Say the intention, say the Hail Mary…that can get lengthy and requires a notebook 😉 , but…sometimes it just makes me feel better knowing I’ve given that intention a moments notice…I don’t know…I think I’m weird sometimes…so, that’s like 50 intentions isn’t it???

😃

Yep, most always at the beginning I offer for Her intentions and the intentions of Her Son’s Sacred Heart. And of course by doing that it would include my own. I find that if I do all this at the beginning before I start then I can concentrate on the mysteries as I’m praying. At times, however, I ask for a million and one things and am hoping she doesn’t get just a tad impatient with me.:o They say it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to say a rosary but with me at times it takes 45 minutes. Just wondering I guess how it is with others or if I’m a little over the top with all my intentions. Glad to find out I’m not the only one.😃

Yep. I pray for just about every cause, every person I can think of. Sometimes I feel like I should narrow it down a bit, but then I think that if I narrow it down, then I’m not demonstrating enough faith in her, and more importantly, our Lord’s ability to handle all of that.🤷

The Marian Movement of Priests encourages consecrating your children to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the beginning of the rosary. I also consecrate brothers, sisters, in-laws, etc.
At Cursillo, a different intention was mentioned for each decade. A different intention could even be made on each bead if so moved.
A friend told me she prays the Divine Mercy this way. “For the sake of His sorrowful passion, Have mercy on ___(name)__and on the whole world.”

Thank you. I had not thought of doing that with the DM chaplet.

Great idea for the DM Chaplet! I do consecrate my children, grandchildren, actually my entire family to her before starting the rosary. Wish I could offer each decade or each Hail Mary for a different intention but I have tried that and I loose concentration that way.:o This brain of mine won’t do that. LOL I guess whatever works.

I typically have 5 intentions to pray for when I say the Rosary, one for each decade. I try to say an intention on the decade where the mystery relates to it. (like praying for an increase in vocations to religous life. I would offer this intention while meditating on the Annunciation in the Joyful mysteries. or praying for the end of abortion while meditating on the Nativity)

Hi Teelynn. Here’s an idea that might help you. Place your regular daily intentions… on little index cards… and mark the cards “Monday”, “Tuesday”, “Wednesday”… etc. You can alter them with specific intentions, for each day… if you like. Read the “daily intentions” in the morning, and offer them to Our Lord and Our Lady, throughout the day… (having read them, just once… each day). Then, before you pray the Rosary… place the daily card at the feet of Our Lady (whether spiritually, or perhaps near a statue in your home). This works well for me… and I will often improvise specific other intentions… as they occur to me.

But my major intentions… (i.e., deceased loved ones, family, friends, priests… etc.)… are always on the cards… and always at the feet of Our Lord and Our Lady. They are basically visual aids, that help me not to get too mentally over-loaded (and maybe discouraged) with my prayers. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!:crossrc:

Oh, go crazy with the intentions. Really.

I have a standing intention for the rosary of the reunification of the Catholic and Orthodox churches. I also pray the Jesus Prayer on my rosary, offering one decade each for people I know who are sick. And a decade of the Divine Mercy each for people who need to come to Christ. And the last line of the Salve Regina to stop abortions, euthanasia, provide health care to the poor, justice for working people, and that all people will come to see the value and dignity of the human person. And I pray “holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal” for the souls of the dead. OK, I’m at 21 so far. Then there’s my intentions for my avian and feline overlords (St. Francis and St. Onofrio, pray for us), the people who work caring for animals, and all the world’s animals generally. Then St. Dymphna for healing of my mental problems and for all the mentally ill to be able to receive proper treatment. That brings us to 31 intentions that I pray for daily, one decade of short prayers each.

I don’t think you can have too many intentions, and aside from the, “approved” prayers, you can pray St. Whoever Is In Charge of This Problem, pray for us for various intentions.

My rosary is dangerously overworked.
