Perhaps we could get a sticky started on this topic since a lot of people tend to have questions about it?!

I’m just wondering what everyone’s strategies are. I know that everyone is different, but maybe I can pick up some new tricks here, you never know…

I tend to first go through the mystery and then wait until a certain aspect speaks to me, think upon it, and ask how it relates to my life.

One problem I tend to have though is REMEMBERING what I discovered in the mystery! I want to improve the areas of my life that I related to a mystery, but I just can’t remember what I was thinking about! Is that bad?

I have a dreadful memory and often. I read the Reading and Gospel after morning prayer each morning - often some 10 minutes after prayer I cannot recall for the life of me the Gospel nor Reading no matter how hard I try to recall them. After bashing myself around considerably for some time over this, I now leave it in God’s Hands and peacefully since, I concluded, my appalling memory is not my choice at all. I may during the day pick up my missal if I am at home and refresh my mind.

With the Rosary, as I pray the prayers, I sometimes repeat over to myself simply the actual mystery without meditation. At other times, I picture the mystery in my mind. As a child we prayed a decade of the Rosary at school daily and Sister had a chart with each mystery depicted on the chart - it was a great honour to be chosen to turn the chart to the day’s mystery. Those pictures remain imbedded in my mind at a ripe old 62 years coming up 22 years!!!😃
At other times I concentrate reflectively on the words of the prayer itself: Hail Mary etc., Our Father etc. Glory be etc…etc. etc.
At other times I just fix my eyes on the crucifix on my oratory.

Often during prayer I have need to apologize to The Lord for distractions. I take all these things peacefully in my stride nowadays rather than bashing myself around over involuntary matters. I would surely be much better a pray-er if I only could.

God’s Blessings and His Peace…Barb:)
