Hello all,

I have two question really that I would would be grateful to get
answers to.
  1. Can anyone suggest a good source for a method of meditating on the rosary, preferably from a saint?
  2. I don’t have any particular system of praying so I usually say the ‘standard’ prayers (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, St Gertrude’s prayer for the holy souls, Rosary, Divine Mercy chaplet and a few other ones said randomly. Should I be doing something such as praying the Lectio Divina? I feel my prayers need more structure. Any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance!

God bless you all,
Noel.

I will share my rosary time.

I have it recorded (Gretchen Harris, I think) on my I-pod and listen to it while I run on the tredmill. I do it 4-5 times a week and end up doing it about 10 sets of mysteries a week.

I can do 2 sets of mysteries in 37 minutes, or 3 sets of mysteries in 54/55 minutes. I have a hard time doing the sorrowful on the treadmill as it is so emotional for me to imagine my Savior’s pain.
😦

In the morning I read my devotional, go down my prayer list (which I co-incide the 50 beads with 50 intentions), read an adoration and maybe read a page or two in a devotion or something. Maybe if I am struggling with something I will do a litany to the Blessed Virgin.

I wish I could stay more focused and sometimes fall to sleep during the prayer time. Thats why I do the rosary on the treadmill, can’t fall to sleep 🙂

I would recommend the Dominicans
rosary-center.org/nroscon.htm

Knowing you have a group that prays with you and for you and you can pray for them all of one mind is the best way I know to get started.

No matter what you do remember this: It should always be a joy, ask Mother to make it joy as your first intention. She will always grant that intention.

There are several booklets that can be found in Catholic book stores in the rosary section.

These books have meditations you can use for each Hail Mary. I recommend you try a good book store and look over the selection.

My wife and I have a commercial recording of the rosary by Still Waters, and as they recite the first part of the Hail Mary, we meditate on the meditation for that particular Hail Mary, and then we respond by saying the second part of the Hail Mary. There are separate meditations for each Hail Mary, as well as a short meditation at the beginning of each mystery.

A very good book is The Rosary: Chain of Hope by Father Benedict Groeschel. This book contains meditations on all the Mysteries, including the Luminous Mysteries. You can get this from the Rosary-Center website which an earlier poster has given you.

I can only give you what works for me, but since you sound a little like myself in the things you say Ill give it a shot. I pray the rosary throughout the day sometimes I can say four rosaries sometimes only one. But what really helped me in the beginning was to say one rosary a day and to really set aside some time for it. I would take my Bible and read the mystery which the decade I was about to say pertained to. After a few days of this I really didnt need to have the Bible to meditate on the mysteries anymore.

Thank you all for the advice.

Ted, thanks for the link. I’ve enroled in the confraternity.

God bless,
Noel.
