Rosary missing beads

I bought rosary beads from eBay, and I stated using them last night but I think there’s beads missing. All the beads are the same size. There’s the crucifix, one bead, a gap. Three beads, a gap, another bead, the ‘miraculous centre’, then it’s 10 beads and a gap before 1 bead then a gap before it repeats.
 
That sounds right to me. Where do you think they are missing?
 
When I’ve looked online for how to pray the Rosary, it tells me there should be another bead before the 10 Hail Mary’s. Maybe I’m just reading it wrong, I don’t know.
 
Try googling ‘rosary beads image’ A whole page-full will come up. Then hover over an image to enlarge. This should give you enough info to compare yours with the images.
 
Sounds alright to me.

Sounds right to me too. But it brings up a great question for me. I have several rosaries that are missing a bead or whole “sections” (i.e. two or more where the links let go). A it’s a blessed sacramental, I can’t just toss them, so they are just in a pile, away. One is a beautiful hand-tied wooden one from the shrine at Guadeloupe. These have unique beads that can’t be matched. What does one do with these? I’ve heard they’re supposed to be pulled apart in sections and buried, but that sounds strange to me.
 
If I’m correct, you are referring to the bead that would be the “Our Father” before the first decade of the rosary? There is not one.

I had that happen to me but I noticed it before I had the rosary blessed. The rosary in question is silver metal and red enamel. In my case, all the beads were identical but one of the decades was missing two beads. Knowing I would never be able to match the missing beads (they are metal scallop-shell shaped) I bought some round red beads the same color as the enamel to replace the Pater Nosters, then took two of the original Pater Nosters and added them to the decade that was missing two Ave Maria beads. Voilà: five-decade rosary restored. That’s when I had it blessed. :cool:

I believe you could do the same thing with a blessed rosary. You may need to have it blessed again once the repairs are complete. Not sure about that, though.

Nevertheless, if you wish to dispose of a blessed item that would be one correct way to do it. Or you could burn it, assuming it’s made out of combustible material.
 
You can do a Google search for “rosary repair”. There are several sites that will do a nice decent repair and match the beads fairly well.

I had to do this myself several years ago when I broke one of my favorite rosaries. I mailed it off in an evenlope and it came back nicely repaired, and not expensive in cost!

The “Glory Be/O My Jesus” at the end of each decade and the “Our Father” at the beginning of the next are prayed on the same bead.
 
Our church asks for any Rosaries not wanted. They get repaired and sent to those who cannot afford one.
