Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that praying certain mysteries on different days were only a suggestion and no way required that the person praying the rosary pray the mysteries suggested for that day. For example if you felt a special desire to pray the sorrowful mysteries you could on any day you wanted. I think Mother Theresa used to say that you could just pray the rosary even if you had no particular set of mysteries in mind.

Well, if you put it one way, there’s really nothing stopping you from having your own schedule, or even praying all the mysteries in one day. But this schedule is put out there for a reason, its a guide for people who would pray the Rosary daily, one set of mysteries per day. It helps organizes things.

Here is a good little site to help you say the rosary: rosary-center.org/howto.htm
Aw…I like the format on this site better than others I’ve tried. What I really like about this one is that it puts 10 statements to each decade mystery (IE: 10 statements for the 1st Glorious Mystery, 10 for the 2nd Glorious, etc), so there is 1 statement per prayer/bead to meditate on. I like it cause it’s organized, and the rosary otherwise becomes too much of a mindless repetition for me and my mind will wander - the 10 statements per decade keeps me engaged. :o

Besides, how much of the same repetitive prayer can one do? Whether 1 or 100, doesn’t God hear it from the start? Don’t get me wrong, it’s good - great even - for us to be in prayer. I actually pray the rosary since adding the mysteries to it - I was not able do it before. 😊 But, that doesn’t sound like a problem for the OP. 😛

Exactly, all my point was that there was no hard and fast rule that said it needed to be done that way. I think to a certain extent that is the beauty of the rosary. Each and every time you pray it you can make it your own. You can add hymns if so inclined, you can do extra prayers if you like, you can take 20 minutes to pray it or an hour.

Because I’m retired, I have plenty of time for the Rosary, but I have never said the Luminous Mysteries and have no plans to begin. I stick with the traditional form and schedule. In a normal day I’ll say at least 75 decades of the Rosary or 15 sets of 5 decades. I have the Rosary in my hands most of the day. And yes, I also collect Rosaries.

Just an added bit of trivia, the Brothers of the Christian Schools (FSC, aka La Salle Brothers) have 6-decade rosaries. No added mysteries, the extra decade is just for special intentions.
