Just out if curiosity, when you pray a rosary do you always have to pray the mystery for the day? For example, if I pray two or more, do all 3+ have to be of the same mystery. I do it this way just to be safe and make sure I am not praying wrong.

The rosary is a private devotion and you are free to pray whichever mysteries you like on whatever day you like. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. The mysteries associated with the different days are a helpful guideline, but you may pray whichever mysteries whenever you’d like.

The Rosary is an aid to prayer and meditation rather than having strict rules attached to it, so feel free to use any pattern you wish!

From what you write I gather you know the traditional order of the mysteries, with or without including the more recent Luminous ones. But really it is not so prescriptive as it sounds. I try (though sometimes fail 😦 ) to pray at least the mysteries traditional for each day, and then if I get the time for further prayer, a set which seems appropriate for the day, or the season (the Sorrowful during Lent, for instance); if I make the time I really should for a 3rd, often the Luminous on the basis that I only consider those on Thursdays otherwise!

But really you should feel free to choose how you would want or feel is best for you. One thing that is sure is that there is not a “wrong” way to pray 🙂

Does anyone know which mysteries were prayed on which days before the Luminous Mysteries were introduced? Just curious.

You can say whichever set of mysteries whenever you wish. The set specific days set for the mysteries are simply a pious custom as far as I know.
