A lady who goes to my church wears a rosary necklace that’s silver and is pretty. Is it alright to wear a necklace like this? I thought that it wasn’t but last spring I was in Puerto Rico and saw a lot of these necklaces displayed in store windows. At the time I thought it was a hispanic tradition or something of that sort. But the lady at my church isn’t hispanic and I saw in our church bulletin that our Catholic store will begin selling these necklaces. Anyone know about this?

i don’t see anything wrong with it…

i think wearing it on your hip was a rule made up by men and not by God

I don 't think God really cares where you where it…you could probably where it on your nose if you wanted to:rolleyes:

Don’t have time to find it stated officially somewhere, but I’ve looked into this before and I’m pretty sure the official word is that it is okay to wear a Rosary so long as the intent is proper. It should never be reduced to “mere jewelry”, or just a fashion statement, however, and should always be treated with respect.

I’ve worn my Rosary as a necklace a few times. It makes praying very convenient 🙂 plus it can help people identify me as Catholic. I also like Rosary bracelets - they just have one decade around the wrist, and you pray it five times to cover the entire Rosary. A bit more subtle, but still very functional.

As a rosary maker and a rosarian, I have looked into this and my findings are in complete agreement with LongingForLight. In addition, historically rosaries were often worn around the neck–not as jewelry, but as a sign of faith. There have been many portraits painted of people of yore where you can see this. In my opinion, any act that helps to promote and draw attention to saying the rosary is a good thing!

While I, personally, might not wear a rosary around my neck, I certainly respect the choice of those who respectfully do! 👍
