Rosary or Chaplet of Divine Mercy? Which is the more spiritually powerful prayer?

Rosary, I’d say.

JPII the Great prayed both of them, but was obviously keenly interested in the Rosary (eg, Mysteries of Light).

Not saying that he wasn’t very interested in the Chaplet, obviously.

To be honest, I don’t think it’s an “either/or” situation, but a “both” situation 🙂

Thank you,

They aren’t in competition with each other, and there is no way to measure how spiritually powerful a prayer is anyway. A simple “I love you, Jesus” said with a sincere heart is just as “powerful” as any other prayer.

You know, prayer comes from God. It is His gift to us. So any spiritual power in a prayer comes from God, not from us.

Brilliant:thumbsup:

i personally would choose the chaplet of divine mercy because it was given by jesus and if its said for the dying it will draw down mercy and they will be saved…plus st faustina said it to avert a divine chastisement…

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy

*In 1935, St. Faustina received a vision of an angel sent by God to chastise a certain city. She began to pray for mercy, but her prayers were powerless. Suddenly she saw the Holy Trinity and felt the power of Jesus’ grace within her. At the same time she found herself pleading with God for mercy with words she heard interiorly:

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us. (Diary, 475)

As she continued saying this inspired prayer, the angel became helpless and could not carry out the deserved punishment (see 474). The next day, as she was entering the chapel, she again heard this interior voice, instructing her how to recite the prayer that our Lord later called “the Chaplet.” This time, after “have mercy on us” were added the words “and on the whole world” (476). From then on, she recited this form of prayer almost constantly, offering it especially for the dying.

In subsequent revelations, the Lord made it clear that the Chaplet was not just for her, but for the whole world. He also attached extraordinary promises to its recitation.

Encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you (1541). Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death (687). When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the Merciful Savior (1541). Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy (687). I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (687). Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My will. (1731)

Prayed on ordinary rosary beads, The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy is an intercessory prayer that extends the offering of the Eucharist, so it is especially appropriate to use it after having received Holy Communion at Holy Mass. It may be said at any time, but our Lord specifically told St. Faustina to recite it during the nine days before the Feast of Mercy (the first Sunday after Easter). He then added: “By this Novena, [of Chaplets] I will grant every possible grace to souls.” (796)

It is likewise appropriate to pray the Chaplet during the “Hour of Great Mercy” — three o’clock each afternoon (recalling the time of Christ’s death on the cross). In His revelations to St. Faustina, Our Lord asked for a special remembrance of His Passion at that hour. *

**The Fifteen Promises of Mary to Saint Dominic for those who Recite the Rosary **
Code:
*Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.

I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

The Rosary shall be a powerful armour against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.

You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only son Jesus Christ.
Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination. *

Find a devotion that you can persevere with, that is meaningful to you, and that makes sense. I pray the rosary with my family every evening. When we get to the mysteries, we spend about five minutes talking about them. Sometimes it’s just a story (reciting the facts of the mystery), sometimes a 7 or an 8 year old will come up with a powerful question or line of thought. We couldn’t do that with the chaplet of divine mercy, so for my family, the rosary is more “spiritually powerful” in the sense that it is catechesis, intercession, praise, and thanksgiving all at once, in a format that is “family-friendly”.

I love the chaplet of divine mercy before Holy Confession. It helps to prepare me for the gravity of the gift I’m about to receive in a way that I don’t think the rosary could. The prayer is so simple, and there’s no thought required. When I’m already nervous about confessing my sins, repeating that phrase can stir my soul and move me to tears.

We live in the country and I have a jumpy daughter. The noises and shadows can make it hard for her to go to sleep at times. I taught her to repeat the name of Jesus over and over. That devotion, simple as it is, works for her. I hope that devotion to the Holy Name becomes hers forever.

There is no spiritometer to measure the power of a particular prayer or devotion. When you look at the promises of Jesus and Mary concerning these devotions, you see something spectacular- that the thing promised in exchange for the devotion is available even to Christians who do not follow that particular devotion. Whether I wear a scapular or not, Mary will pray for the delivery of my soul after my death. Whether I pray the chaplet of divine mercy or not, Jesus answer me when I call for His mercy. I don’t choose devotions based on a formula for what I will receive, because I already receive salvation through the sacraments. I choose a devotion based on how well they fit what it is I need to do.

Whichever one is prayed with the most sincerity.
thats true…and whichever you feel more comfortable praying…some people actually pray both…

father corapi composed the spiritual 9-1-1 prayer and its

9 memorares (mother teresas express novena)
rosary (5 decades)
chaplet of divine mercy

and he said by praying that it gives you a direct line to heaven:thumbsup:
