I am the only practicing Catholic in the family and I want a rosary for Mom before her funeral, the rest don’t care (even Mom). Should I push it or fall back?

Is you mom dying? I’m a bit confused as to the situation you are describing, my dear. 🙂

I’d say don’t force sacramentals on people who do not want them. We can’t coerce people into the faith. It’s better to simply be a good Catholic, love her, pray for her ,and let God do the rest. If you wish to give her a religious gift, you should give her something she would like and understand, instead of giving her something she doesn’t care for or wouldn’t want to have.

So sorry to here about your Mother’s passing.

Say a rosary if you like. Is she having a Catholic funeral ? This might make it easier to incorporate a Rosary into her funeral services.

Personally putting a Rosary in the hands of someone who was not dedicated to saying the Rosary is just a "show’ thing. I wouldn’t do it myself. She would be a whole lot better off if you said the Rosary for her every day till you meet her again, and then you have them put the Rosary in your hands! God Bless, Memaw.

I understand this situation all too well. However, a parish priest was kind enough to point out that a funeral should reflect the faith and wishes of the deceased. Those of us who remain need to express our faith in the appropriate ways, times, and places. So, I would recommend you offer a rosary for the repose of her soul privately or in a prayer group you belong to, but not at the funeral unless this would be her wishes.

Thank you for your help! I gather from the replies that I should not push the formal rosary, but do it myself, privately.

Give her one, say it with her, say it for her. Praying for you…

I agree, set by her bed and softly say the Rosary for her. Also the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
A few years ago my Aunt, (By marriage), was dying and I would go see her often and set there and pray for her. She started asking me questions and finally I said, “Aunt E. do you want me to have a priest come and Baptize you?” and she said, “Oh yes, Please!!” I did she was also Confirmed and died very peacefully. God Bless, Memaw

Yes, that would be a good thing to do, and it’s wonderful that it helped your aunt. 😃

I’m still fuzzy if the OP means her mother has died so she wants to put a rosary in her coffin or she is dying and she wants to give her a rosary or if she wants to simply pray the rosary with her mom. I guess I’m simply confused about what we are talking about. 😉

I may be wrong, but I’d rather got the impression that we were talking about praying the Rosary prior to the funeral (maybe at the wake? That is something that is done sometimes at my parish).

Yeah, that’s what I thought. I still think speaking to her pastor is prudent, as she may have left instruction with HIM, knowing her immediate family was not practicing.
