Rosary question

I admit, having been praying the rosary since I was young (even sometimes fingering the beads when I was lapsed), I’ve never had the guts to ask this question. I remember having it explained to me as a child the Apostle’s Creed, Our Fathers, Hail Marys, and Glory Be’s, but I learned on my own about the mysteries.

My question, and I feel no small amount of silliness having to ask this, but when does one pray the Salve Regina? I know it’s marked by the joiner, but is it prayed prior to starting the first decade, in which case it interrupts the OF/Mystery/Decade pattern of the rest of the rosary, or is it prayed at the end, in which case it, like the Prayer After the Rosary, is also a prayer after the rosary.

Again, I feel silly having to ask this question, but I actually haven’t found anywhere that explains its placement in the structure of the rosary apart from diagrams pointing at the joiner.
 
When I hear the rosary recited, the Salve Regina occurs toward the end. If there is an exception, then I am unaware of it.🤷
 
The Salve Regina comes at the end. You pray the final decade, say the Glory Be and, if you include it, the Fatima Prayer (O my Jesus forgive us our sins…). Then the Salve Regina is recited. The final prayer is included in the link provided by AmataVeritas.
 
When I first started praying the rosary, well before I was Catholic, I wrote a letter to a Catholic friend in which I asked her how to pray the Rosary, beginning, I said, with “Taking the Rosary in the right hand, kneel,…” She thought the request was funny, but did not realize that it was serious. I have gleaned the following over many years: If you are praying the Rosary on your own, it doesn’t matter what format you follow exactly. The point is to find what is helpful and spiritually uplifting for you. If you pray the Rosary with a group, follow what they do. This is hard to do if they assume you already know what you are doing and ask you to lead a decade or two before you have figured out what they do (ask me how I know this!). There is a little blue booklet which is generally available at places where Catholic books are sold which has a lot of information about the Rosary prayers. This little blue booklet is easy to lose, so when you find a store that has them, buy several.

Anything else you want to know about the Rosary, just ask me. I will sympathize with you.

Since we’re on the topic, I throw in a St. Michael at the end after the Oh My Jesus and before the Hail Holy Queen. Does anyone think that bad or disrespectful or inappropriate. It’s like an extra intention of protection on my family and household. I’d appreciate any thoughts… or I can just post a new thread I suppose.

I’ve said a St. Michael’s prayer at the end after praying for the Holy Father. Guess it doesn’t really matter. I typically end by asking St. Joseph to pray for us.

It’s very common to add either the St Michael Prayer or the Memorare onto the very end of the Rosary.
 
Ok. I’ve been lumping the Salve Regina with my final prayers. I felt silly because one of the prayers is literally entitled “Prayer after the rosary,” and figured it had to be the one ending the rosary. Anything else lumped in there, I thought, wasn’t right. But interjecting it before the first decade was just AWKWARD.

RSD: I would LOVE to hear your awkward group story. I’ll tell you my JW/Rosary story in return. It’s a lot weirder than you’d think. 👍
