I have come to know now that there are many different kinds of rosaries like:
  • The five decade rosary
  • The fifteen decade rosary
  • The twenty decade rosary
  • The Franciscan Crown
  • The Seven sorrows of Mary chaplet
and probably many other kinds too.

My questions are:
  1. The fifteen and Twenty decade rosaries, are they meant for any special purpouses or is it more a matter of taste and/or traditionalism?
  2. During Lent, should only the sorrowful mysteries be prayed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

The twenty decade Rosary is considered the full rosary and we should pray it like Pope Benedict XVI does every day; however the Church does allow us to pray only five decades, also considering this the Rosary. Before John Paul II came up with the Lumionous Mysteries (the Mysteries of Light) the full Rosary was comprised of only 15 decades.

We pray all the mysteries of the Rosary during Lent. On the Sundays of Lent, if you wish, you could pray the Sorrowful Mysteries.

Next time you should post questions like this under the “Spirituality” forum, not under the “Prayer Intentions” forum. Peace!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee
Blessed art thou among women and
blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
