Hello all!

I am still learning the ropes of Catholicism, and I just had a question about the rosary. I am often paranoid that I am going to do something wrong, mess something up, etc. I was just wondering, when you pray the rosary, is it okay to use reference cards for the Apostle’s Creed? Do you all say the Apostle’s Creed each time that you do it?

Thank you all very much in advance!

Yes it’s ok to use reference cards. Focus on the saying the rosary the best you can and do not stress about getting it right. It’s your intention that matters not the logistics of getting it correct every time. Don’t be scrupulous.

Here is a link that may help you with some of your other questions. The Most Holy Rosary.

You may use any sort of reference that you want, and yes you recite the Apostle’s Creed on the crucifix at the begining of each rosary.

It it makes you feel better I started with an iphone app as I did not have a rosary last year- and it has all of the prayers spelled out which was very helpful. I now prefer scriptural rosaries so I use my ipad or a booklet with the rosary beads to help me meditate better on the mysteries and keep me from wandering in my thoughts, though I will also say it in the car or while walking for exercise if that is the only time it is going to get done that day. The rosary has been a tremendous blessing in my walk with the Lord, both coming into the Church and now as a new Catholic.

Our Lady is a model of patience. If your heart is in it, your efforts will be fruitful even before you master it, I’m sure.

I LOVE the rosary and say it every day --for each decade I have a specific prayer – for my children – grandchildren – friends – friends who are ill, etc.,etc. The frist two decades I say with my first cup of coffee – the next 2 decades I say when I’m taking a walk in the neighborhood or park – and the last decade I say before I turn out the light at night – I couldn’t get along without the rosary.

Laudate is the name of the app for droid. I don’t know if it’s the name for i phone too. Its a great app I use it very day to pray the rosary.

Remember, try not to be scrupulous! The Rosary is not some kind of magic incantation. Don’t worry about making sure you say every word, in the correct order, totally and completely. My soon-to-be wife is very scrupulous about the Rosary, and it can take her a good hour to pray one. She concentrates on each word and worries/frets about missing a single word.

There’s an analogy I once heard:

A daughter takes out the trash for her father, on her own initiative. Along the way she drops a can here, a wrapper there. But, because she did it out of love, her father forgives those little mistakes as if they never happened. I think the same goes for pious devotions like the Rosary. We try, and along the way we probably don’t do it perfectly. So what? We tried, and G-d knows that.

I’m glad you’re coming into the Church!

There are a few. The first one I got was called irosary. Another one I like now is the Mary app which is free from the Marian Fathers, it is chock full of not only Marian prayers including the rosary with wonderful meditations to accompany it but other information about Mary which as a convert i found very informative. They also put out the Divine Mercy app which is great. There is also an app called imissal which has the rosary. Who knew smartphones could add so much to my Christian walk- it is really wonderful what is out there now.

Blessings,

Val

iTunes is telling me that I need to update the software on my iTouch to do it (I’m very bad about that), but thank you so much for telling me that this exists!

That’s an amazing analogy that I know will help me focus on the action of the rosary and not the perfection/details of this action. And congratulations on your soon-to-be-wedding! May the Lord bless all of the beautiful years that you are about to spend together!

Thank you so much for telling me about all of these apps! It’s great to see technology being used for productive and spiritual purposes!

I have a beginners pamphlet from church on how to pray the Rosary that I use constantly as a refresher when i forget the Apostle’s Creed ( which i am still learning even being a Catholic for many years now ) and as a way to help me stay focused while praying.

you are not being judged by Mary or Christ while learning how to pray or even in any form of prayer I.M.H.O as it is coming from your heart and soul in honesty, so try and focus on relaxing before ,during, and after your time in prayer with Mary in the Rosary. Don’t worry about mistakes, if you get out of order just get back on track where you are at and continue on, and make mental notes or physical notes for the next time.

It will help you learn, and become more confident in prayer.

Thanks (from me, too) for the info on the apps. Off to download one today!
