Rosary question

Hello, I’m new to the forum. I read on one of the EWTN minisites on the Rosary that in order to way to say the Rosary in a manner acceptable to the wishes on the bessed mother is to meditate on the mysteries. I know that is the proper way. But for years, perhaps due to poor training, I said it without meditating on the mysteries. I just said it trying to be a scincere as I could.

Does this mean all the Rosaries I said over all these years are no good?:confused:

No, it doesn’t mean that at all. We do well to say the rosary devoutly and we gain graces from that practice. Our prayers are heard and God responds to them even if we do not meditate. Meditating on the mysteries of the rosary is recommended as a way to gain additional grace and to show our devotion to Jesus and His Blessed Mother.
 
If you can teach yourself to meditate on the mysteries, you will eventually start to gain so many wonderful insights into the life of Christ. The rosary is so full of blessings!

I try to make a little movie in my head, walking through the scene of each mystery and imagining what went on, sights, sounds, smells, etc.
 
It might be a good idea to connect the meditations somehow with the intention you’re praying for. Otherwise, you may want to go for the specific theme in the liturgical period going on, such as Lent now. My dad uses music… I think some meditational mediaeval music, think a monastery and monks and all.

I only went through RCIA two years ago. And I started by just saying an Our Father and some Hail Marys.

I used to teach swimming (but not too many classes). When I taught students how to kick their legs and that was all they were doing at the moment. Is that no good? No. They were learning. Etc., etc.

But in your case of praying without the mysteries. You were praying. And your prayers count.

If you really want to know more about the Rosary, read St. Louis De Monfort’s “The Secret of the Rosary”. In it you will see that even a single “Hail Mary” said devoutly is such a precious prayer.

I’m sure Coach meant to say NOT wasted.

I think it’s a shame when people make the Blessed Mother out to be a woman with impossible demands for how all kinds of things should be. Surely she’s not that kind of mother. She’s happy with whatever her children are able to do.

Thanks very much for all your replies. I have been trying to meditate the mysteries and will continue to practice this. Sometime if my mind wanders I’ll say a decade at various parts of the day. 🙂
