Rosary Selling After Mass?

Ok so I have been making rosaries out of beads and wire for the past three years, and I am 18. I have gotten decent at it (God blessed me with that for sure), and have been selling rosaries on etsy for the past few years (I am a relative, and from the hometown of Venerable Sheen so BishopSheenRosaries seemed like a good place to start).

I went to Uganda last summer on my own to teach english for 32 days. I realized that, even though the Ugandans have a HUGE (and I mean massive) devotion to Mary, many can not afford a rosary. So now when I sell a rosary I donate money to buy a rosary for an impoverished person in Uganda, and a small portion also goes to buying medical supplies for a clinic I am in contact with.

I want to go into parishes and sell after masses, as well as selling on etsy, and also eventually opening a website. Is selling rosaries after mass something that is acceptable? I remember in the Bible when Jesus was angry at people who were selling all kinds of things outside the temple. I do not want to ask a priest to sell rosaries at his parish if it would be immoral.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, and prayers even more so!!

You can sell the rosaries, but not the blessings. Selling blessings (or perhaps even blessed rosaries) would be simony. But yeah, just selling non-blessed rosaries is certainly fine.

All the gift shops in the Vatican sell blessed sacramental (bless by the Pope). Selling something blessed is quite different from selling a blessing.

But isn’t the blessing lost when an object is sold?
 
Selling rosaries is something you would have to run by the parish priest of each Church you might want to sell at. Each parish may have rules regarding sales like yours and you will just have to ask. Personally, I am so impressed with what you are doing. I will pray for you to be able to expand your sales in order to help more people.
 
Perhaps you can contact pastors of parishes in your area and see if they would let you sell your rosaries. Barring that, perhaps they would let you put a notice in the bulletin as to how to purchase them. There is nothing whatsoever immoral about this; some parishes actually have their own gift shops selling rosaries and other religious articles.
 
Why dont you make a load of rosaries and send them out to the people in Uganda? That would awesome!
 
I was shipping rosaries there, and I brought as many in my suit cases as I could. But I taught a nun there how to make them, so I buy they from her for more than she can sell them for, and then a priest gives them away. So it gets a rosary to an impoverished person, and buys medical supplies! Two for one!

Brian, it is good to hear that they have a great devotion to the Holy Mother in Uganda.

I am not sure if selling them after Mass is appropriate but many churches do have craft fairs and such where you could offer them.A nice lady at our church makes simple plastic rosaries,has them blessed ,and leaves them in a basket near the church entrance.It seems she has to replenish it frequently! The rosary is one of the most powerful prayers as it continually confirms the gospel and our faith.
 
I would ask the local priests for permission because I have seen some priests allow individuals to come into their parishes to sell items for missions. I would also ask around especially some of the religious orders and ask if they have missionaries in the area you are concentrating on. You could also offer to teach people how to make rosaries for a (small cost with proceeds going towards the charity.) Once some people learn how to make them, you could create a small group which could make them and you could send more overseas. Furthermore, if you created your own website, (with a link on your current site), you could ask some of the craft stores to donate the material you need to make them, it will enable more rosaries to be sent and you will have less overhead costs. Perhaps you could even train some local people in Uganda I think the country that is on your heart to make them, with some donated materials they could easily make them. I would even check out if there are some organizations that already give rosaries to different areas therefore it could be a great way to make some connections.

I have also seen rosary supplies on ebay sell very cheaply. Very often sellers sell lots of crosses etc for fairly decent prices. In addition, if you are wanting to give crosses to people who need them, there is a missionary in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (a province really needs God) who stands at the subway stations and gives rosaries to people who need them. He has no money to pay for them but Quebec has become a very secular society which really needs God.

I have taught people 🙂 that’s who I buy the rosaries from. And I have heard Canada has become increasingly hostile to Christians. I’ll def keep them in my prayers but I don’t have the resources to branch out quite yet. Thanks for the info and I’ll keep it in mind though!!

That’s thats so true!

All of the positive responses have helped me keep up the strength and carry on what I think is what God wills for me to do at this moment in my life. Praying for all of you, and let’s all pray that the devotion to Mary becomes the norm in our societies!

It was inside the Temple.

Have you talked with Bishop Jenky and Mgsr Deptula? Since they are the ones overseeing Ven. Sheen 's cause they may be helpful in getting the parish’s in the diocese support

Hopefully he will be declared Blessed by years end.
 
I had not thought of the Bishop helping! That is a very very good idea! I will email either him or Monsignor tonight!

And yep no problem I can type up a paragraph and I am including a prayer card as well. Would you prefer a St Jospeh, Sacred Heart of Jesus, or a prayer for all who carry their cross?
